The picture of the Great Patriotic War - a reflection of pain and hope

People will always remember the war and heroic deeds. The war affected every family, experiencing it spiritually and physically. The total despair of losses, hunger and at the same time fighting spirit, patriotism, the frantic joy of victory - all this, of course, could not affect the creativity of that time. However, even now, the past is reflected in art, albeit not so brightly. Outstanding artists during the war created masterpieces, which subsequently glorified them to the whole world.

Pictures of the times of the Great Patriotic War reflect the ideas and spiritual spirit of people who lived in that dramatic era. The artists showed in their paintings simultaneously the tragedy of the cruel war and the heroic feat of the people, who stood up for the defense of their native land. Created in different directions, they unite the desire of artists to reflect the emotional background, the basis of which was an exacerbated sense of patriotism. The authors used various styles: everyday, genre, landscape, portrait painting, historical realism.

Painting of this period

Each picture of the Great Patriotic War is at the same time a symbol, a call and a reflection of emotions. Many canvases were created directly in the war years. They conveyed to the audience a powerful patriotic message.

For example, the painting by AA Plastov "Fascist Flying" (1942). On the canvas is a fascist airplane, from which the pilot shoots across the field with a herd and a small shepherdess. The picture expresses anger, understandable to any Soviet person, hatred of the senseless cruelty of the enemy.

Many paintings inspired the call, inspired people to self-sacrifice in the name of their native country. This is the work of AA Deineka "The Defense of Sevastopol." Written directly in the course of military events, this picture of the Great Patriotic War shows street fighting in Sevastopol. The confrontation between the Black Sea and the fascist fighters on canvas is a symbol of the desperate courage of Soviet people.

The famous canvas "Tanya", created Kukryniksami in 1942, depicts the feat of the tortured young fascist Zoe Kosmodemyanskaya. The picture shows the die-hard courage of the heroine, the desperation of the peasants, the cynical cruelty of the Germans.

Genre painting era

The Great Patriotic War in the paintings is represented not only by battle scenes. A lot of paintings show short, but piercing stories from people's lives during a time of severe trials.

For example, the canvas "The Escape of the Fascists from Novgorod" (Kukryniksy, 1944) shows scenes of vandalism of the fascists in the ancient Novgorod Kremlin. Running away, marauders set fire to priceless historical buildings.

Another genre picture of the Great Patriotic War - "Leningrad. Winter of 1941-1942. The queue for bread "(Ya. Nikolaev, 1942).
Hungry people waiting for bread, dead body on the snow - these were the terrible realities of the blockaded city-hero.

The famous painting "Partisan's Mother" (M. Gerasimov, 1943) shows the pride and dignity of a Russian woman, her moral superiority over a fascist officer.

Portrait painting

The portrait theme in the forties carried the idea common to the art of those years. The artists wrote generals-winners, heroic toilers, soldiers and partisans. Simple people wrote using means of realism and symbolism. Portraits of commanders were ceremonial, for example, a portrait of Marshal GK Zhukov (P. Korin, 1945). F. Modorov wrote a series of portraits of partisans, and V. Yakovlev - images of ordinary soldiers.

If we generalize, the picture of the Great Patriotic War reflects in some measure the Soviet ideology characteristic of the time. But their main idea is the pride of soldiers and workers, who managed to win and save human traits at the cost of huge sacrifices: humanism, faith, national dignity.
