The Mystery of the Black Sea: The Serpent of Kara-Dag

The Crimean peninsula is famous not only for the beauty of nature, unique historical, architectural buildings, sweet wines and juicy fruits, but also amazing puzzles, no one has yet explained to them. One of these secrets is the karadag snake, a creature living in the waters of the Black Sea.

Another "father of history" - Herodotus - mentioned in his works that in the depths of the Black Sea, or, as the Greeks of those times called Pontus Euxine called him, a huge monster, catching up with the movement of the wave, dwells. The Karadag snake has repeatedly appeared to the sailors. So, the Turks, regularly swimming in the Crimea and Azov, wrote reports to the sultan about the dragon. According to eyewitnesses, the creature had a length of about 30 m, was covered with scales of black color, and on the back fluttered a crest resembling the mane of a horse. Its movement was rapid, it easily left behind the fastest ships, and the wave created by it was like the one that occurs during the storm. People who inhabited the coastal zone, too, were familiar with the sea reptile not by hearsay, which was reflected in fairy tales and myths.

Of course, all this worried inquisitive minds. Several expeditions were sent to find this outlandish beast, but the Karadag snake was not in a hurry to demonstrate itself to people, but managed to find an egg of a truly gigantic size. The scales showed that the mass of the "testicle" was 12 kg! After the shells were split, a dragon fetus appeared inside. For several millennia, residents and guests of the peninsula claim that somehow they met this strange and unknown inhabitant of sea waters. And I must say that among the eyewitnesses there were well-known and serious personalities who have no reason not to believe. It is clear that these people are educated and, most likely, are not prone to mystification and fiction. In different years the karadag snake not only came to the eye, but also left material facts confirming its existence. The fishermen of the Crimea had to pull dead dolphins out of torn networks with traces on the body of a huge jaw, the size of the teeth about 4 cm. At the same time, not only soft tissues, but also bones and ribs of a mammal were torn out, which demonstrates the monstrous power of a satisfied predator. Scientists who were sent to study the corpse of a dolphin, said that they do not yet know a creature that could have fingerprints of such teeth. The Karadag monster was also seen by submariners. This happened during the sinking of Bentos-300, a laboratory working at depth. Having reached the immersion level of 100 meters, the hydronaut saw an obscure shadow on the right side of the ship. The giant snake swam slowly to the porthole, slowly wriggling, as if studying people with its small eyes. However, as soon as scientists decided to photograph it in the photo, the monster, as if having read their thoughts, rushed into the depths.

At the moment, there is no official confirmation that the Kara-Dag snake is a real creature, it seems that he feels that he is being sought, and goes into the depths of the sea at the slightest attempt to take it to video or photo equipment. Perhaps the situation could be clarified by expeditions, but such events require financial investments, which so far neither officials, nor scientists, nor private individuals are in a hurry to do. The waters of our planet so far retain their secrets - Loch Ness, Karadag, and other water monsters do not seek to contact people.
