The most expensive wine. Who and why makes such purchases

When it comes to buying very expensive wines, their purchase can seem like a waste of money, especially when the price is tens of thousands of dollars. Actually this is not true. Buy these precious drinks only very rich and prosperous people, because this is their lifestyle. The most expensive wine for them is a criterion of prestige and well-being, and such purchases become an ordinary phenomenon.

Most often, exclusive drinks are bought for a lot of money not to drink in the circle of friends, but for a personal collection that decorates their magnificent homes. On special occasions, not only demonstration of their acquisitions takes place, but sometimes tasting. Owning the most expensive wine at home, bought at auction - this, of course, means once again to emphasize your status and excellent taste. For this category of people there are drinks that deserve special attention, for example, the most expensive wine - Burgundy "Roman Conti" in 1985. It was sold in New York for a fantastic amount of $ 170,375.

There is an opinion that wines older than 50 years lose their taste. Buying such drinks, it is necessary to take into account that the excellent taste could change over the years of storage. Instead of pleasure, you can experience disappointment. Nevertheless, the most expensive wine, even with great endurance is still in demand.

What affects the final cost of this drink? Can it really be worth the fabulous money? When the most expensive wine in the world is sold, the charge is taken not only for the contents of the chic bottle, but also for the history that every precious drink necessarily has.

Very indicative is the legend of the Bordeaux "Grand Cru" harvest of 1945 from the company "Muton Rothschild." This most expensive wine in the world was sold at Christie's auction for an astronomical amount of 22,650 euros for one bottle. It was made in limited quantities and perfectly preserved to the present day. The "Muton Rothschild" is also famous for being a symbol of victory in the Second World War. On a specially ordered label, Baron Philip de Rothschild, wrote in his own hand: "1945 is the year of Victory." One unknown but very rich buyer bought 12 bottles of this excellent drink, paying $ 290,000 for the whole purchase, but that's not all. In addition, he bought another 6 bottles of 1.5 liters of the same wine for 345 thousand dollars.

Separately I want to mention other interesting facts. According to one of the owners of private collections of exclusive drinks, whose name remains unknown, one of his bottles of wine costs $ 75,000. It was made in a well-known estate in Burgundy in 1875. Of course, only the most expensive wines can cost so much.

A bottle of Chateau Lafite wine, produced in 1787, was sold for £ 105,000 at the Christie's auction in London. Bought her son billionaire M. Forbes in 1985. She, like the famous jewelry, has its own history. It is believed that she previously owned T. Jefferson (third president of America), and the proof is a special sign - a personal engraving.

The most expensive wines do not cease to amaze with their value. For example, the "Romanée-Conti" of 1990 was sold in the amount of 6 bottles at a price of $ 5,800 for each. It took place in New York at the well-known auction "Zachy's".

No less surprising and modern technology of wine storage, and the latest development in this area is "The Penfolds Ampoule Project". The invention belongs to the artist Nick Mount, who presented the world with an original glass capsule, designed to store precious varieties of wine. 12 capsules with the exclusive "Penfolds 2004 Block 42" have already been released, and this was done by an Australian company.

One of these capsules is stored in the museum "Penfolds", and the rest can be bought by laying out an amount of $ 168,000. The contents, which is in a capsule, are made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape harvested in 2004. Capsules are made by hand and decorated with precious metals, and they are sold in boxes made of eucalyptus. Open the casket is possible only with a special tool made of silver, which is always included in the kit.
