The medicine "Kenalog 40": instruction for use

Medication "Kenalog 40" is a medicinal product that has anti-allergic, immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory effects. Also, this drug helps reduce itching.

The preparation "Kenalog 40" is used as a suspension for injection. In 1 milliliter of this suspension contains 40 mg of triamcinolone acetonide and 9.9 mg of benzyl alcohol, which are dissolved in physiological saline.

Due to the fact that it stimulates the synthesis of lipocortins, depresses the release of proinflammatory factors by eosinophils, reduces the content of mast cells in the body, the "Kenalog 40" drug receives good responses. In addition to the above positive properties, it stabilizes cell membranes and lysosomes, preventing their degranulation, reduces capillary permeability, inhibits the release of gamma-interferon and interleukins 1,2 from macrophages and lymphocytes. When it is used, the utilization of glucose by tissues is reduced, gluconeogenesis is stimulated and catabolism is activated.

The drug "Kenalog 40" is indicated for use in the development of bronchial asthma, hay fever, chronic spastic bronchitis, psoriasis, pemphigoid, dermatitis of various genesis (eczematous, atopic, herpetic, exfoliative, contact, non-microbial etiology). Its use is intra-articularly shown in gout, arthrosis, exudative arthritis, shoulder blockage, edema of the joints, false gout, with chronic inflammatory diseases in the joints, and similar processes in the inner layer of the joint capsule. Application finds the preparation "Kenalog" and as injections in the area affected by the pathological process: keloid, chronic lupus erythematosus, isolated psoriatic plaques, flat nodular lesions, hair loss in a circle. In all of the above cases, the Kenalog medicine is effectively used.

He gets good reviews, but do not forget about contraindications. This drug for systemic use is contraindicated when

- the presence of stomach ulcers and duodenum,

- hypersensitivity to this drug,

- Bone atrophy,

- mental illness (including in the anamnesis),

- chicken pox,

- poliomyelitis in childhood (except for bulbar-encephalitis),

- viral diseases (shingles, herpetic pemphigus),

- glaucoma,

- and also age in the interval of 12-16 years.

Locally, its use is contraindicated in chicken pox, fungal lesions, skin inflammations near the lips, skin lesions of a syphilitic or tuberculous nature, immediately after immunization.

During pregnancy and lactation, the preparation "Kenalog 40" is not recommended.

This drug can, with subcutaneous injection, cause reversible tissue atrophy, when injected into the joint - a feeling of heat, bone necrosis. Local use can cause a change in pigmentation, increased hair growth, the appearance of acne, blisters and thinning of the skin. Side effects during systemic application can be very different:

- Cushing's syndrome,

- diabetes,

- Moonlike face,

- Muscular weakness,

- atrophy of the adrenal glands, muscles and bone tissue,

- impotence,

- vasculitis,

- withdrawal syndrome,

- the formation of ulcers,

Bleeding from mucous membranes and skin,

- the appearance of blackheads,

- violation of the menstrual cycle,

- suppression of immunity,

- glaucoma,

- headache,

- thrombosis,

- increased sweating.

When administered intramuscularly, adults are given 1 ml (in the buttocks). When injected under the localization of local lesions, 1 ml is administered per 1 cm², previously diluted in a local anesthetic. Intra-articularly administered to children over 12 years of age and adults 10-40 mg of the drug.
