The mass grave united the dead
The mass grave is the burial place of a group of people who died at one time in connection with some events, among which there may be military actions, epidemics, natural disasters, repressions, etc. Such objects have their own number and are indicated on maps. Data on the personalities of people lying in the grave, as a rule, are unknown. Burial places are divided into civilian and military, and servicemen should pay tribute to the common graves of the dead soldiers.
The most ancient mass grave was found in the territory of the Old Simon Monastery in Moscow, where cubic meters of human remains were found. Skulls buried, according to experts, belonged to young healthy people, and clothes and some items were not preserved. This, together with the necessary analysis, led to the conclusion that in this place there was a mass burial of the soldiers who died, as it is supposed, during the Kulikovo battle.
The territory of Russia was repeatedly subjected to military raids. Therefore, the mass grave, unfortunately, is a frequent phenomenon in many localities. Thus, in the seventies of the 20th century, a collective burial site with a total area of about 170 square kilometers was found on the edge of the Utitsa forest. Meters, on the territory of which the last shelter was found about 700 people and 350 horses. The remains were collected and burned in November 1812. In Soviet times, the territory at the burial site was landscaped. Here we put obelisks and cleared the paths. Later, a wooden cross was erected.
The Second World War was filled with a sad list of graves. For example, on the Karelian Isthmus about 139 thousand Soviet soldiers were killed, and those killed in the Great Patriotic War account for about 0.3 million people. The Finns lost about 87 thousand soldiers. About 60 thousand of them died in 1941-1944. Due to the fact that the fighting was conducted in the forests, on the territory of the isthmus there is still not one common grave, which requires detection based on historical data, as well as proper care.
Today in the Russian Federation there are numerous search teams, some of which are united in a special union. Many of those participating in the excavations say that in the forests and in the fields of the country the soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic War still lie . The identity of some of them can be established, while the rest are buried in mass graves with appropriate honors. According to individual studies, as a result of military and other actions in the USSR during the Great Patriotic War, about 26.6 million people were killed.
In addition, we must not forget about the victims of peacetime, which include those who died during the Stalinist repression. In many cities of Russia and CIS countries today monuments are opened to those who were shot in the late 40's. For example, under Voronezh, more than 100 executions were found, and 998 (!) People were buried. Several ditches were filled near the Irkutsk people, in Vorkuta - mines and dumps, near St. Petersburg - a whole wasteland (Levashovo).
