The little-known Spanish island of Fuerteventura

The second largest Canary Island of Fuerteventura is still little known to Russian tourists. And it is not surprising, as a tourist direction, he began to develop more recently. Now Fuerteventura attracts Europeans who prefer a quiet family vacation.

On the island's area of 1800 square kilometers there are only about one hundred thousand people, which is very small for this place. According to unreliable estimates of local residents, there are more goats on the island than people. By the way, it is the goat with the inscription "Fuerte" on the body that is the symbol of the island. As an unusual souvenir, you can bring a sticker or a figurine with such a goat. More than half of Fuerteventura is generally uninhabited and remains undeveloped. The landscape of the island is mostly flat, there are no high rocky outcrops or hills. About two hundred years ago the Spanish island was famous for its stormy and bright vegetation, but a little later all trees, large and small, were cut down by Europeans for the construction of sea vessels. So now the island is more like a desert. But not for vegetation here tourists come, and for rest on the best of all the Canary multi-kilometer beaches, which were formed naturally. The fine white sand is brought here permanently by the wind from the coast of Africa, because Fuerteventura is only one hundred kilometers from Morocco.

As I already mentioned above, the island develops relatively recently as a tourist area. Therefore, there is still not a customary for tourists a wide variety of entertainment facilities, water parks and tourist complexes. When the sun goes over the horizon, it becomes boring here. Maximum what tourists can choose for themselves, who chose to relax in Spain on this island, is to sit in a quiet cafe and taste dishes of unusual local cuisine.

The climate of the island allows visitors to swim in the ocean and sunbathe on the chic beaches all year round. The average temperature in the hottest month, July, is 27 degrees, but, thanks to low air humidity and a constant slight wind, the heat is easily tolerated. In winter, the temperature does not fall below 24 degrees. Near the coast of the island, the water in the ocean is warm all year round.

Three main resorts on the island: Jandia, Corralejo and Caleta de Fustes, each year take a little less than one million tourists.

The most popular resort, Jandia, is a peninsula. So far, there are no new fashionable hotels and restaurants, but in a couple of years the resort will boast of their availability. Now it attracts tourists with its beautiful beaches. Mostly Germans, nudists and windsurfers come here.

Some representatives of European youth prefer tours to Spain to the resort of Corralejo. This is the only place on the island, where night life is at least somehow developed.

The resort village of Caleta de Fustes, located in the east of Fuerteventura, is created specifically for people who want to spend their holidays in Spain with their children. There are beaches artificially cleared of stones and well protected from the wind, playgrounds and even restaurants with baby food.

In the capital of the island, the city of Puerto del Rosario, there is an airport. But, unfortunately, the island is associated only with neighboring islands and some European countries.
