Promising young domestic director Egor Baranov in his incomplete 30 years managed to create four different in the genre policy project: two black comedy "Nightingale the Robber" and "Suicides", a dramatic insurgent "Priest-san: Samurai Confession" with a stunning ensemble ensemble (K. Hirayuki-Tagawa, I. Okhlobystin, P. Mamonov) and the film "Locusts", whose reviews include the tape for melodramas, stubbornly ignoring the genre of the erotic thriller, positioned by the creators.

From a mini-series to a two-hour movie

Virtually all reviews of the film "Locust" (Russia) mention the difficulties that arose at the stage of production of the picture. The fact is that the history of the creation of the tape is vague. Filming of the mini-series took place two years ago, but as a result, for reasons unknown to the general public, it was remounted and turned into a two-hour feature film. The narrative begins with the fact that the turbulent holiday romance of the boy from the province of Artem (Petr Fedorov) and the spoiled metropolitan beauty Lera (Paulina Andreeva) breaks down into everyday difficulties: the girl is destined to be his wife's partner in the business of his father, and the young man has nothing for his soul except the motorcycle And pairs of poems in a notebook. Nevertheless, when the watcher watches how a romantic young man gets into the hard world of the capital, turning first into a plaything of a rich lady, and then into a calculating killer, it is important for him to understand the reasons for each decision of the protagonist. The viewer has no such opportunity. Such narrative failures alone are not a big problem, but accumulating, they spoil the impression and do not encourage to revise the film "Locust" several times.

Reviews of the film as an erotic thriller

Probably, it is necessary to mention the numerous erotic scenes of the brainchild of Baranov. The authors, removing the tape about the overwhelming passion, do not shy away from nudity and other details. In the frame now and then there is a naked body, and not only in scenes of carnal pleasures. In general, there is an author's attempt to identify with a few realistic positions. However, almost every erotic episode is presented with an identical solemnity - the camera slowly creeps up and down, flickers, as if the amber color melts, the next romantic music sounds louder behind the scenes. But when in two hours of timekeeping it is demonstrated once in the sixth, then the patience of the viewer practically does not remain. It turns out smart and good ideas tape does not allow to develop at full strength, and the recurring moments can quickly disappoint the viewer. This is the imperfection of the film.

Verdict

Unfortunately, the well-known saying about "I wanted it better, but it turned out as always" fits the concrete project even too much. The "first Russian erotic thriller" claimed by the producers did not take place either as a "thriller" or as an "erotic" one. Frank scenes because of their greatness and not ingenuity are not impressive. Trying to please the fans of an erotic thriller, Baranov borrows certain scenes from Shame, copies the aesthetics of the bodies in the light of the neon lamps Gaspar Noe. As a result, a strongly twisted, not completely reliable and too monotonous melodramatic story about fatal passion and murders has turned out. The ending of the painting, tightening into a tight knot, brings the heartbreaking final scene closer, which in general terms can be predicted for half an hour before the end of the tape. Nevertheless, for the sake of justice, it is worth noting that the film has some very nice ideas and IMDb rating: 5.60, so it can be recommended for viewing to fans of novelties of the domestic film industry.
