Tension of the ligaments of the knee joint

Stretching of the ligaments of the knee joint is considered the second most common damage after the meniscus. As a rule, this is a consequence of the indirect effects transmitted by the bones. Less common cause is direct injury.

Stretching of the ligaments of the knee joint can occur with retraction, flexion and rotation of the thigh against the tibia inward or outward, excessive extension of the joint, as well as displacement of the tibia when it strikes its posterior surface.

Damage can be the first, second or third degree.

The sprain of the ligaments of the knee joint of the first degree is accompanied by a microscopic partial rupture in the ligament. In rare cases, it can lead to hemorrhage. As a rule, the ligament structure is broken, but it remains intact.

The second degree is characterized by a partial break with signs of loss of function. When viewed around the ligament there is swelling.

If the third degree is damaged, a complete rupture is revealed. In this case, a complete loss of stability of the joint is observed.

As a rule, this damage is typical for athletes (skiers, gymnasts, football players), but there are also domestic injuries.

Sprain of the ligaments of the knee joint. Symptoms.

To the first and main sign of damage include severe pain. After a while, a swelling is formed. However, stretching the ligaments of the knee joint, unlike the fracture, is not accompanied by deformation of the joint.

There are two most common types of damage.

Damage to the cruciate anterior ligament (primary stabilizer in the knee joint) not treated on time can lead to regular instability in the knee joint. This, in turn, leads to the development of arthrosis and meniscus damage.

Rare cases include damage to the cruciate posterior ligament. As a rule, the trauma is the result of a direct impact on the anterior surface of the tibia.

It should be noted that the preservation of motor functions is considered an important factor in therapy. Rehabilitation measures provide for a set of exercises aimed at strengthening the tendon-muscle system that carries out the movement. In order to prevent recurrence of injuries, the tendon-muscular system needs to be restored completely, to its original volume.

When the first symptoms appear, it is recommended to attach ice to the damaged area or hold it for a while under icy water. Then you need to fix the joint with an elastic bandage. Bandage should not be very tight, in order to avoid disturbance of blood circulation and numbness.

With strong pain, you can take an anesthetic.

On the bandaged (fixed) joint, ice is again applied from above. Rest is recommended. Observance of bed rest is necessary for effective healing. Bunches heal long enough.

If the swelling passes and the pain subsides, then the ligaments heal. However, after the disappearance of pain, do not immediately strain the joint.

If the pain does not subside, and the tumor grows, you need the help of a doctor. As a rule, an X-ray is prescribed to more accurately diagnose and exclude other injuries (fracture or bone fracture). The doctor prescribes the necessary treatment.

After the end of a difficult period, it is recommended to use ointments containing non-steroidal anti-inflammatory components. Ointment is recommended to rub on the affected area and cover it with a bandage or bandage. Also shown is an easy gymnastics for knee joint development.
