Subaru Baja car review

At the Auto Show in Detroit in 2002, the Japanese company Subaru presented a mid-size pickup with a full drive Subaru Baja. It was produced for three years (from 2003 to 2006).

Car Overview

The "Bahia" was developed on the basis of the existing cars "Legacy" and "Outback". They borrowed a platform and body elements.

The pickup has a salon with four doors and an open platform for loads, the rear side of which opens. The dimensions of Subaru Baja (in meters) are as follows:

• The height is 1.63 meters.
• The wheelbase is 2.65 meters.

If you need to transport bulky goods, you can dismantle the partition separating the salon from the cargo compartment. The rear seats are folded. This option was called "svicbak." As a result, you can use the space from the back of the front seat to the tailgate. This distance is equal to 1.9 meters.

The leaders of the company "Subaru" planned to sell 24 thousand models of cars per year. But for the whole production (and this is four years) they managed to sell only 30 thousand copies.

In April 2006, the production of Subaru Baja was completed. Reviews of car owners argue that "Bahia" is inferior in performance to its competitors ("Chevy-Alanach", "Ford Explorer"). The low sales could also be affected later by the appearance of the power unit with the turbine and the unsightly coloring in two colors (yellow and silver).

Equipment

Feature of Subaru Baja is the availability of the following functions:

• Roof racks on the roof.
• Illumination of cargo compartment.
• The presence of two arcs, reinforcing the design of the trunk.
• Tinted windows at the rear.
• In the cargo compartment there are four hooks, for which you can fix the load.
• The spare wheel is attached under the cargo hold. It comes with a winch.
• The maximum weight for towing is 1.1 tons.

The car kit depends on the year of production.

Expensive versions of the 2003 cars were assembled:

• Leather interior;
• Electric driver's seat;
• Luke;
• The color of mirrors and handles is identical to that of the body;
• Ignition lock lighting.

Inexpensive models were produced without these functions. The salon was lined with cloth. Adjustment of the driver's seat was done manually.

Models of 2004 had a choice of fabric or leather interior, air intake.

The main feature of the vehicles of the next year is the ground clearance more.

In 2006, they began to produce models with a rigid cargo compartment roof, lightly dropped discs and an improved safety system.

Subaru Baja: technical specifications

The car was equipped with two types of power units:

• Gasoline engine in volume of 2457 cubic centimeters, capacity of 121 horsepower, torque of 4.4 thousand revolutions per minute. Fuel injection multipoint. All-wheel drive. The transmission has a manual five-speed transmission. As an additional function, an "automatic machine" with 4 steps was installed.

• 2.5 liters of turbo. Power - 154 hp, torque - 3.6 rpm. Four-wheel drive. Transmission is identical to the first option.

Subaru Baja received several awards. But this did not help him to acquire the desired popularity among buyers.
