Style chalets in the interior: the romance of simplicity

The chalet style in the interior and architecture has an unusual history. Originally called the shepherds' houses, built high in the mountains. They were distinguished by the simplicity of planning and building materials, but surprising reliability and comfort. In addition, low, with a sloping roof, the dwellings perfectly fit into the surrounding landscape. No wonder that over time they were considered romantic havens, and modern ski resorts offer tourists accommodation in these houses.

Style chalets in interior and architecture

What is a chalet? These are low, but spacious dwellings, built entirely of natural materials. The roof of squat houses is very sloping, gable, strongly hanging over the walls and far beyond them protruding. It reliably protects the walls of the house from rain and snow, a strong frosty wind. Usually such a roof is covered with shingles: no artificial materials style the chalet does not accept.
The chalet is not striking: it is a continuation of the landscape, naturally fitting into it. Style chalets in the interior can be briefly described in such words: rural simplicity, reliability, comfort. If we consider in more detail, then the interior design in the chalet style is characterized by the following details:

• Rough, solid, but extremely cozy and comfortable furniture, always made from natural, wood-smelling wood.

• Complete absence of modern materials. Chalet - it's just a stone and a tree.

• Simple, deliberately rustic, necessarily handmade decor. Its main motifs are: mountains, coniferous thickets, mountain flowers, animals.

• Mottled coverlets in the style of the patchwork, the same variegated, often hand-woven tablecloths and wool coats.

• Chalet style in the interior means animal skins on the floor, watercolors with mountain scenery on the walls, unpainted, specially aged floors from natural boards.

• Kitchen chalets - it's rough wooden shelves, an abundance of earthenware, a huge oven, tiled. Tiles are sometimes specially aged, split: the older the house seems, the more interesting it is for others.

• Chalet-style interior (photo) is a basic gray color combined with bleached wood and delicate pastel shades of walls, textured plaster, massive wooden lamps.

• The highlight of the house is attached to the rough and massive ceiling beams. Their absence can be compensated by covering the ceiling with a natural tree or laying it with a stone. It is important that the stairs, if they are in the house, the doors and other details are in harmony with the ceiling.

• In the chalet are appropriate horns on the walls, hunting accessories, stuffed animals, tapestries, other household items that carry the inhabitants several centuries ago.

The main attraction of the interior in the style of the chalet is a fireplace. Huge, real, with living fire, it is the center of the composition around which other interior details are grouped. Of course, in modern homes most often install gas fireplaces: they are more convenient and safer. However, they do not give such an aroma of burning wood, the heat of living fire, like wood constructions. That is why in the country houses with all amenities lovers of comfort and romance continue to install old fireplaces that are heated by firewood.
