Station "Volokolamskaya". Metro metro

One of the most interesting stations of the Moscow metro is Volokolamskaya. The name of this platform of the Moscow subway is shrouded in a series of myths and legends thanks to which it has long been considered a ghost station, some mysterious and mystical object on the underground map of Moscow. More details about it will be discussed below.

general information

The Arbat-Pokrovskaya branch is the line on which the Volokolamskaya platform is located. The underground, as is known, differs in the directions on colors. This line is marked in blue on the scheme of the Moscow metro. The name for the platform was given nearby Volokolamskoe highway. The metro crosses this route from north to south, and the station, with the same name, is located between the stops of Mitino and Myakinino. Thus, it goes beyond the boundaries of the Moscow Ring Road. If you exclude neighbors on the branch nearest to Volokolamskaya is the metro station "Tushinskaya".

Volokolamsk highway connects these two stations by ground-based means. The platform lies at a depth of just over fourteen meters. The total length of the station is one hundred and sixty three meters.

Platform History

The metro station "Volokolamskaya" was opened in 2009, at the end of December. According to the account, it became the 179th platform of the Moscow drizzle. However, to build it began long before this - back in the 1990s. At that time, a transfer station was required for the Mitino-Butovo line, the role of which was supposed to be played by Volokolamskaya. Metro at the same time and built under Mitinskaya street, that is, in addition to the station, it was planned to build additional tunnels. Some of them were built in an open way, part - closed. Nevertheless, the plans of town planners changed, and by the end of the 1990s the project was frozen, and the metro station Volokolamskaya entered the folklore as a ghost station. However, it owes it to the glory of another station, as will be discussed below.

After about a decade and a half the project became relevant again, and the construction of the platform was continued. But it happened not so simply and quickly. First, the sections of the excavated tunnels were dug back in order to extend Mitinskaya Street. Secondly, a new project was required that would meet the new requirements. It took a long time to develop and approve it. Therefore, the full construction of the platform began only in 2007.

In early February 2008, workers began to lay a long-distance tunnel to the future bridge across the Moscow River from the station "Volokolamskaya". The metro was built in a closed way with the help of special equipment.

The open way of laying tunnels was used only on approaches to stopping and during the construction of the station itself. As the platform is executed by technology of monolithic construction, the main works were connected with concreting. Thus, solidity is what distinguishes the "Volokolamskaya" platform from most other stations.

A subway built during the Soviet period, for example, has a completely different design. All work on the construction of the station was completed in nine months. This is not so much, given the volume and complexity of the work done. In autumn 2008, work began on finishing the station with marble and granite. And in 2009 the platform "Volokolamskaya" was opened. Metro and subway employees were first visited by city officials and representatives of the press. A week later - on December 26 - the station was inaugurated for public use.

Transport near the platform "Volokolamskaya"

Near the metro station "Volokolamskaya" there is a bus number 837, and a kilometer from the station in the direction of Riga is the railway platform "Knitted goods". In the future, it is possible to build a new railway platform in the immediate vicinity of the metro.

Vestibules and platform transitions

This station is non-stop. This, by the way, distinguishes the modern platform from the project of a transfer point, originally conceived by Volokolamskaya. The metro on the blue branch after the ring line intersects only with the blue line at the station "Kuntsevo".

The object includes two vestibules - in the north and east. There are also two outputs, respectively. Each of them is equipped with a three-cylinder escalator, and one has an elevator designed for people who find it difficult to use an escalator. Passengers at the entrance and exit are separated from each other into two non-overlapping streams.

Architecture and style of execution

One of the attractions that Moscow is rightfully proud of is the metro. "Volokolamskaya" is one of the most beautiful stations in the Moscow subway. The platform project was developed by a group of architects of JSC "Metrogiprotras". In 2011, he even won the competition "Golden Section", conducted by the Union of Moscow Architects.

The station is distinguished by fairly high arches, exceeding the height of the mark of eight meters. The composition of the platform is made in the Neo-Gothic style. The arched device, the three-nave construction and the increased step of the columns (nine meters) give the impression of lightness and spaciousness. Facing the station is made with dark marble and granite. Throughout the perimeter, there are fixtures that are tuned to create natural light. The floor is finished with light gray granite.

Legends about the Volokolamsky station

Among the diggers and lovers of mysticism, the metro station "Volokolamskaya" was known as a ghost station. However, in fact, the platform, which is discussed in the article, is not the same ghostly and mysterious "Volokolamskaya", about which legends go. They have only a common name.

The real ghost was on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line, just in front of the Tushinskaya station. This platform was built in 1975 specifically for a residential complex, which was planned to be erected on the site of the Tushino airfield. But since the building project was canceled, the metro station was not opened there either. In a conserved form, it stood until the end of August 2014, when its grand opening was held with the name "Spartacus" in honor of the stadium located above it. But among those who do not know this circumstance, the situation with the legendary Volokolamskaya still introduces confusion.
