Somik corridoras aquarium: care and reproduction (photo)

Somik corridoris is one of the small representatives of fauna that lives in the water depths of the subtropical and tropical parts of South America. Fish reaches a length of only 3-10 cm, so huge aquariums will not have to be purchased for it.

Description

Catfish aquarium corridors have a slightly elongated body, medium-sized fins and stigma with four antennae. Since it is a bottom fish, its mouth is on the bottom. Their color is very diverse. Among other things, it is often possible to meet somicot albino.

The body of these small fish is covered with bony scales, because of what they are also called carapaceous catfishes. It is interesting that the fish belonging to this species have a respiratory system of two types - gill and intestinal.

To distinguish a female from a male corridor is not difficult. Its color is not so bright, and the dorsal fin has a rounded shape.

Care

First of all, it should be noted that the catfish corridor is quite unpretentious both to the conditions of keeping, and to the volume of the aquarium, the chemical composition of the water, and to the design of the space in which it lives.

I must say that this fish, in addition to its decorative purpose, can also carry out such important work as cleaning the soil from the uneaten food left by other inhabitants of the aquarium. This is due to the fact that the catfish corridor prefers to stay at the bottom most of the time, and on the surface it basically pops up just to take a little breath of fresh air. After that, he again sinks to the ground.

Somiki corridors, photos of some species that can be found in this article, like to dig in the ground, so they often pick up all the turbidity from the bottom of the aquarium. To clean the water, you need to install a filter.

Feeding

The ration of fish is quite diverse. Therefore, feeding these catfish will not give the owner much trouble. So, they can be safely called omnivorous. For example, they can dine with dry frozen foods with great pleasure, have dinner with daphnia, bloodworm, coret or tube, and, so to speak, "tablets", which contain various vegetable ingredients, are perfect for dessert.

Somik corridor is very interesting to eat. He swims to the surface of the water and begins to eat, while making sounds like champing.

Breeding

Approximately at the age of one year the fish reach puberty. To get a litter of corridors in the home can even a beginner aquarist. For this, you need to have a small flock of 6-8 individuals. Most spawning occurs early in the morning, much less often at night. The beginning of this process will be noticeable for the significantly increased activity of individuals who will try to get into a group.

For spawning it is best to use a separate tank, where you need to put the right amount of fish. The vessel can be filled with fresh or taken from the common aquarium water. The latter will need to be changed no less than half. A separate tank will ensure a calm spawning and a good adaptation of fish to the changed conditions, and also prevent oxygen starvation of embryos.

After the reproduction period is over, all corridors should be returned back to the common aquarium.

Corridor panda

These fish with an unusual appearance reach a length of not more than 5 cm. In nature, they can be found in the tributaries of the river Ucayali, located in the territory of Peru. The flow here is slow, and the water is saturated with oxygen.

Somik corridoras panda is immediately remembered for its interesting color, which has some similarities with Chinese bears. Fishes have a light body, and on the fins and around the eyes there are three black spots: the first on the head, the second near the tail, and the third near the dorsal fin.

Males, unlike females, are smaller in size and slightly different in body shape. The newly born fry has a single high periaplastic fold and fairly large pectoral fins.

Catfish panda are brave fish that can perfectly keep their defenses in their shelter. In addition, they are not afraid to swim even in search of food for the largest inhabitants of the underwater world. Therefore, you can safely place such a catfish in a common aquarium. But still it is worthwhile to think about before placing them in a tank where too aggressive fish live.

Particularly active pandas corridors become with a warmed up to 28-30 ° C aquarium. Their fun and amusing fuss can be observed if the tank is filled with sour water at room temperature.

Decorative pond for catfish should be well filtered and often change the water in it. Despite the fact that the fish are rather unpretentious, they do not like it when there is too much dissolved organic matter and mechanical suspension in their habitat. No matter what the water filtration will be done, the main thing is that it should be regular.

The females are distinguished by their larger size, more rounded sides and abdominal line, which has an arcuate profile. In addition, there is a difference in the form of fins that are on the abdomen. They are somewhat rounded and larger than in males.

Golden corridors

This name was given to this bottom fish because of its color. Somik corridoras golden has a calm and peaceful nature. It perfectly coexists with almost any aquarium fish. The whole body of catfish is covered with rows of strong bone plates, which make it almost invulnerable to larger and more aggressive individuals. But it is best to keep representatives of this species in the same tank with fish of the same size.

Feed golden corridors from the bottom of the aquarium, while eating up what others have not eaten. With such catfishes, the remains of food on the bottom almost do not remain. They are omnivores and love both dry and live food.

Golden catfish do not like too bright lighting. That is why in the daytime they usually sit in the shade of rocks and snags or in shelters, and at night become very active.

Since these fish are rather unpretentious, they are very fond of beginning aquarists. Like panda's catfish, they have not only gill respiration, but also intestinal. Therefore, sometimes they float to the surface to breathe atmospheric air. You can equip the aquarium with a special filter-pump. He will purify the water from the turbidity and aerify it. As a result, golden catfishes will very rarely surface, as they will be quite able to breathe oxygen in their habitat. It should be weekly to replace the water in the tank by about 15-20% of its total volume.

The female of the golden corridor is much larger than the male, and its maximum length is 7.5 cm. Another distinguishing feature: the female body is wider than that of the male fish. Sometimes they are distinguished in form of fins. For example, in a male, the dorsal fin is acute, and in the female it is rounded. Very rarely there is an albino form of golden catfishes. With proper maintenance, corridors can live in aquariums for about 10 years.
