Sheremetyevo Airport: international: address, terminals and photos

Conceived as a response to British Heathrow, the airport terminal is constantly evolving and in recent years has indeed competed in passenger traffic with the world's largest airports. For 65 years of existence, the main air gates of the country have changed significantly, especially after a serious reconstruction in 2015. At present Sheremetyevo International Airport is an air harbor with the highest level of service, built on modern technologies. It meets the latest safety and maintenance standards.

Milestones in the development of the air port

Initially, the construction of a military air base was planned, but on the orders of Khrushchev, dated the end of July 1959, the airport is redeveloped into a civilian one. Less than two weeks later, on August 11 of the same year, the first board, which flew out of what was then Leningrad, TU-104, landed here. Its name is due to the neighboring village of Sheremetyevsky.

International flights began to be performed in a year. The first was the flight to the German city of Schönefeld, carried out by IL-18 (June 1, 1960). The next steps were taken in the autumn of 1967: in October the Muscovites flew to Paris, and in November - to New York.

The airport was expanding, new terminals were being built to serve an ever-increasing flow of passengers. By the XX Olympic Games, which Russia hosted in the summer of 1980, terminals B and F have already been built, the latter is also known as Sheremetyevo-2. During the month of the competition, only half a million sports fans from all over the world arrived via this airport terminal.

The form of government was changed to an open joint-stock company in 1996. Since then, the name of JSC "Sheremetyevo International Airport" has been mentioned everywhere.

Achievements of the Moscow air terminal

It was Sheremetyevo Airport that was the first in Russia to receive flights in any weather. This became possible after the receipt in the summer of 2002 of the ICAO category "3 A" certificate. As an aerodrome of the first class, it can accept the largest airliners.

For the high level of service, the open joint-stock company "Sheremetyevo International Airport" twice became the winner among other European harbors. The award was received based on the results of the research of the ASQ program (Airport Service Quality) in 2012 and 2013.

After the last reconstruction, which took place in 2015, Sheremetyevo rightfully can be called the largest air terminal in the country. There are five passenger terminals and one cargo terminal on the territory. They are able to serve 35 million people annually.

Plans have already been drawn up for further modernization of the airport, calculated for 2030 and promising to increase passenger traffic to 64 million a year. Among other things, it is planned to open the third runway, there are also talks about the fourth. Also in the next couple of years, another passenger terminal must be completed.

Airlines to Sheremetyevo

To date, this air harbor occupies a leading place among other airports in the country in terms of the number of international flights. Only regular flights number more than two hundred. They are carried out by about 150 aviation companies in 300 directions, covering more than a hundred countries.

Among the airlines that trust their flights to the air terminal, there are members of three leading alliances: "Sky Tim", "Star Alliance" and "Vanvorld." The most famous air carriers, whose flights pass through Sheremetyevo: Air France, SAS, LOT, Delta, KLM, Finnair, Alitalia and many others.

Sheremetyevo became the base airport of Aeroflot. Among the local airlines are also represented the "Ural Airlines", "Russia", "Nordavia", "Orenburg Airlines", "Avianova", "Donavia" and "Yamal".

Terminal B is rebuilt in place of the old building, known as the "glass". The new building was commissioned in 2012, becoming the last addition to the open JSC Sheremetyevo Airport. International Terminal C was built in 2007 and now mainly serves charter flights from Nordvind and Orenburg Airlines. The main office of Aeroflot is also based here.

The main advantage of the southern air terminal complex is the neighborhood with the Aeroexpress station. In addition to the building of terminal F, built for the Olympics in 1980, the remaining buildings of the southern complex date from 2008-2010. The project of Terminal D is especially interesting: it is a swan with open wings. All three terminals serve mainly international flights.

In 2012, terminal A was opened, which is engaged in servicing business flights. Most of the business trips of Muscovites start from here.

Moving between terminals

The easiest way is to get from one southern terminal to another. All three are connected by galleries, another one unites them with the railway station. To maximize the convenience of passengers, travolators (self-propelled roads) are equipped. This once again shows that Sheremetyevo airport is an international model of comfort and quality service.

If you need to move between the northern and southern complex, you can use one of the following options:

  • Shuttle bus number 20 - journey time 20 minutes, ticket price - 60 rubles. Break in the schedule for only a few hours at night.

  • Shuttles on the inner radius of the airport are free when the ticket is presented. The main purpose of these buses is to deliver passengers from Aeroexpress to the desired terminal and vice versa.
