Scriabin Museum in Moscow

Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin was a great composer, whose music fascinated and seemed mystical. He was a pioneer in the direction of light music, and then the listener did not understand it, but today it is widely used in musical compositions.

A.N. Scriabin: short biography

The great composer and musician was born in Moscow in 1872 in the family of a student at the Moscow University, who in the future became a diplomat and held an important post. A year after his birth, his mother died of illness, in 1878 his father was sent to work at the embassy in Constantinople. Little Alexander remained in the care of his grandparents and his father's sister.

At a very young age, Alexander began to show interest in music and at the age of 5 he was able to play the piano. Soon he was sent to the cadet corps, which he graduated from and entered the Moscow Conservatoire in piano and composition. While still studying in the cadet corps, Scriabin took private lessons and worked diligently.

For a while he worked abroad, where he earned his living by performing his own compositions. Then he returned to Russia, began teaching at the conservatory, periodically performed in France, Belgium as a conductor and pianist, and also gave concerts in Moscow.

In total he had 7 children from two spouses, although with his second wife was not officially married. He died from blood poisoning because of an unsuccessfully squeezed furuncle, he was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery.

In memory of the composer, in 1922 the Scriabin Museum was opened in Moscow. His office was occupied by his second wife.

Museum of Scriabin

The museum in memory of the great composer was decided to be created in his apartment, an old mansion where he lived for the last three years, having died in 1915. This is an old museum, which was opened in 1922, where it was possible to preserve the atmosphere in which Scriabin lived, thanks to all the objects of everyday life.

The big luck was that no one was settling in the apartment or making a communal apartment out of it. In 1918 the widow of the composer received a paper, where it was said about the inviolability of the situation in the apartment.

In the 1930s, when there was an ideological "pressure" in the country, it was difficult to support the work of the museum, during the war all items were taken for storage, and then there they made repairs and a little later they opened, when everyone could already come.

All furniture in the apartment is original, was created by famous Russian and foreign furniture makers in the early 20th century. The most priceless items are the grand pianos, behind which the composer worked. Also you can see photos, documents, letters and, of course, a personal library on various subjects (philosophy, natural sciences, ethics).

Expositions of the museum

When in 1922 the museum of Scriabin was opened, three rooms were presented to the spectator: a dining room, a bedroom and a cabinet, the number of exhibits was then 455 units.

Two years later, another room was opened, where you could see the famous Becker grand piano and "light circle", which was specially designed for the composer by his friend-engineer. In addition to musical subjects, letters, manuscripts, the bust of the composer and the tailcoat in which he performed for the last time are presented. For all the years the collection has been constantly replenished with various small and large things and today it is about 30 thousand units.

Today the Memorial Museum of A.N. Scriabin offers all the guests to see six rooms and feel the atmosphere of those years. In addition to the above rooms, children's, anteroom and living room were added, although the children's room did not survive, and various documents and letters from the composer were presented there.

Activities in the Museum

Currently, the Scriabin Memorial Museum is not just a museum, but a scientific and educational center where various events take place. Guests have the opportunity to visit thematic excursions, listen to fascinating lectures, come to creative meetings with famous musicians, artists and other artists.

Scriabin's music was in its own way unique and original, it always felt impulsive, nervous and anxious. The apartment has preserved many documents, on which the scientific work was conducted, and it was started by the widow of T.F. And Schlezer continued with followers. In the future, it is planned to open an international research center for studying music directions.
