Screw piles: reviews and practical experience of use

No house can be built without a quality foundation. But it happens that the soil on the site is too unstable, and therefore pour a classic tape or even a monolithic base is simply impossible.

In such cases, an excellent way out may be screw piles, the reviews of which we will consider today.

What it is?

Before we talk about positive and negative feedback about this technology, it would not hurt to learn about the essence. So, the foundations on screw piles are essentially like a sort of "hut on legs". In the ground, special piles are screwed from high-quality grades of steel, on which a grill is mounted on top. In some cases, the house is put directly on them.

From this property follows the first positive aspect, which is distinguished by screw piles: the testimonies indicate that there is very little time to install such a foundation. In any case, incommensurably less than what such an operation would take, flood you with a monolithic foundation.

What houses can be put on them?

Unfortunately, they have their shortcomings. First of all, experts still do not advise erecting "palaces" for them, since the load-bearing capacity of piles can not cope with such a mass. In this regard, I would like to say that most of the negative feedback is due precisely to the fact that the owners of housing did not listen to the recommendations of construction companies.

Especially it concerns the cases of construction on unstable soils: screw piles, the reviews of which are very contradictory, yet can not be compared with a monolithic concrete pillow. It is best to put small country cottages or even baths on them.

Mounting conditions

It should be noted that some of the negative opinions still have a real basis. First of all, it concerns the used construction equipment.

If you are going to build something big enough, you will have to order massive piles. They are not only difficult to bring, if the road to the construction site is blurred, but it is not easy to screw into the ground. For this, a powerful construction machinery is used, the cost of which can hardly be called low.

However, it is not so much the screw piles themselves that are to blame, the reviews we are considering, how many trusting customers and cunning builders.

The latter like to talk about the speed of installation and other positive things, forgetting to mention the need for a normal access road, the presence of an electric grid of at least 5kVA (for welding), as well as sufficient water for pouring a concrete base.

Agree that when entering into an agreement with a normal firm, you will not have such problems.

Errors at work

Drive away the workers of that company who begin to manually dig trenches under screw piles! Feedback from owners of such "long-term construction" indicates that it turns out complete nonsense. We remind you of the technology: the base is screwed (!) Into the ground, which ensures the stability of the finished building. If you dig the pit by hand, several times twist and twist the rods, then nothing good will come of it!

Now let's talk about the financial side of the issue. Three or four screw piles for the foundation, the price of which will be about 1600 rubles per piece (diameter 89mm), will not seriously damage your budget.
