Rococo. Interior Design

What associations do you have when looking at works of art in the Rococo style? The first thing that comes to mind - King Louis XIV, dueling, wigs, white, royal favorites in dresses with corsets. Asymmetric, dynamic elements of Rococo include some theatrics and lightness, luxurious pomposity. As they often say, rococo is a frivolous interpretation of baroque, although, in fact, there is very little in common between them.

The rococo style originated in the early seventeenth century in France. The most striking example of the interior in this style is the Palace of Versailles. Exquisitely playful, exquisite and exotic rococo has to do with the ancient culture of ancient Rome and Pompeii.

The term "rococo" itself originated from "rocaille", which means - a shell. The name is not accidental, because some patterns and elements actually resemble sea shells, with their curls and bends. In addition to the marine theme, we can see details made in plant, oriental, Chinese ornaments. Ornaments should be everywhere, both on furniture, and on the floor and ceiling. The most striking of them are emphasized by gilding. The walls are usually decorated with trellises with patterns, carpets of silk and wool. It has a rococo style and lots of mirrors hanging over the fireplaces and over the sofas and tables. Actively used and moldings, bas-reliefs. Do not forget about the flowers, refreshing the overall atmosphere. Several hundred houses are decorated in this way, because the palace ladies preferred orchids.

Furniture is of particular importance in the interior. Characteristic for the style of exquisite, luxuriously decorated furniture. Here, the details of baroque, the construction of the Middle Ages, the decoration of the Roman style are mixed. The legs of the sofas and tables resemble the paws of animals, returning the fans of this style to Egyptian interiors. Chairs and armchairs are covered with silken fabric covers with complex trim. All furniture has smooth rounded lines, here you will not find corners and rectangular shapes. Particular attention should be paid to couches-canapes and fireplaces, without which the interior in the Rococo style will not be finished. Also, the rococo style is associated with mobile screens that appeared in the interiors of houses around the 15th century. Such screens visually strongly change space, give the chance to be isolated from the public, without leaving the room. He gave the world rococo and such household items as a chest of drawers, a secretary, a chaise longue, etc. Furniture is arranged asymmetrically and even chaotically.

The color scheme is predominantly pastel and surprisingly light. There are pearl, salad, pink, lilac, marble, blue and white shades. They bring peace, harmony and romance to the space. All this creates the illusion of airiness, lightness of dreaminess and intimacy. Flower patterns, gilding and soft waves allow you to feel yourself in luxury and comfort. Complement the atmosphere of various statues of Greek gods, painted ceilings, tapestries, curtains in the tone of furniture. Also, the interior emphasizes the abundant number of different candelabra, porcelain and faience lamps. I want to pay special attention to the vases, as a large floor with painting and stucco molding, and miniature. Vases are made mainly from porcelain and faience, also from crystal. The dishes were made of silver.

To date, the Rococo style in the interior is quite difficult to meet. Choose it those who can afford expensive and luxurious things. Mostly choose this style for decorating bathrooms and bedrooms, as well as living rooms in country houses. In modern apartments, the Rococo style is not so appropriate. However, if you can afford a similar situation in a country house, then it will be refined, luxurious and beautiful.
