It received its name in honor of the monk, who settled in these places in the XIII century. It was he who brought the miraculous icon of the Virgin to the island.

It is believed that the ancient recipe belongs to the monks who gave it to a simple Greek family, and she, in turn, spread the liquor around the island. Usually tourists are brought to the mountain and temple as part of the excursion groups, since it is not easy to get there by themselves: buses from the city of Rhodes do not go to the mountain more than two or four times a day.
