Repair of TVs with your own hands - is it possible?

To date, the selection of literature on the topic "Repair TVs with their own hands" is huge. Among other things, on the Internet you can find educational videos or tutorials on this topic.

Of course, in order to repair LCD TVs with your own hands, you need at least some knowledge in electronics. It is necessary to eliminate everything that could threaten your safety and the safety of your loved ones.

Each TV has its own characteristics, which are important in its repair. Therefore, the approach to finding a malfunction is strictly individual.

Decide on when exactly the fault appeared and what it was expressed in. Sometimes the problem can be rooted in poorly inserted connectors, shorting wiring, cracked, burned or just broken parts.

How can I repair the TV with my own hands?

Methods of finding a malfunction

You can fix the problem in minutes, but it's much harder to find them. The task of our article is to explain the methods of diagnosing modern television equipment.

Beginning ... From what?

How to start repairing TV sets with your own hands?

In those situations when the TV "died" at all, that is, it can not be turned on, it is very difficult to find the location of the malfunction. But we need to find the defect in the shortest possible time, and then eliminate it as quickly as possible.

We start with cleaning the TV. First, clean the body, then the surface of the kinescope and the receiver board. We do this with a vacuum cleaner and brush. The fault can be detected immediately if you find burnt resistors, swollen capacitors, burnt chips and transistors. If during the cleaning of the kinescope you are observing a white, instead of a transparent, flask, then this means a loss of vacuum.

Checking the power supply

The first thing to check is the efficiency of the power supply. How to do it? To begin with, disconnect the load and connect the incandescent lamp. If the voltage in it is less than 110 V, then we conclude that the power supply is inoperative. Then check the transformer block, then the filter capacitor, whose voltage should be approximately 160 V. Through the throttle, the voltage goes to the output stage. It is necessary to solder the throttle or fuse, thus disconnecting the power supply from the horizontal scan. As a load simulator, we use an incandescent lamp, which we connect in parallel to the condenser.

If the fault is in the item being checked, the voltage will drop on the bulb. In the same way, we check the filter capacitor, input circuits, transistor and network rectifier. If the incandescent lamp turns on and off or there is dim light on it, the power supply unit is likely to be working properly. Hence, further we carry out the test already without the use of an incandescent lamp.

Then, measure the voltage on the load when the power supply is connected to the network. If the voltage is higher than 130-150 V, then the test should be directed to the primary circuit of the unit. Note the capacitance of the capacitors. If it decreases, the voltage will be higher than the set value. Conversely, if the voltage is below normal, we check the secondary circuits. Thus, you are already on the way to doing repairs of TVs with your own hands.

The next step is to check the horizontal scan

If the power supply unit is functional, check the output stage of the horizontal scan using an incandescent lamp. If the output stage is functional, the same lamp effect will be observed - it will faintly glow or light up and go out.
The transistor should be checked only if the lamp is lit and does not go out. If it is working and the voltage is low, make sure that the control pulses are in place. If the lamp glows and does not go out, and the unit does not turn on, then it's most likely in the lower-order coils. Try unplugging the coils and turning on the TV. If it turns on, the fault must be sought in the deflecting system. It is possible to check the defect system defect by replacing it with a working one. At the same time, turn the TV on for a short time so as not to burn the picture tube.

The point is in the staff scan

If a horizontal bar appears on the screen, the line scan is OK. You should look for the problem in the staffing. First we check the output stage and the generator. If their voltage is less than 24 V, then the cause of the malfunction should be sought in them. If the case is in the breakage or breakdown of the rectifier diode, the faulty coil should be replaced by a working one.

Check the power supply of the kinescope

If the screen does not light up with a good scanner and power supply, check the integrity of the glow tube filament. Probably, breakages can be removed by means of sealing.

In what else should you look for the cause of the malfunction?

If there is no image, no sound, the malfunction is, most likely, in the radio channel. If there is no image, but there is sound, the cause should be searched in the chroma block or in the video amplifier. If there is sound, but there is no picture, the reason is in the low-frequency amplifier or in the video processor. If there is a sound and an image, look for the cause in the tuner or in its harness.

Particular attention should be paid to the control unit. To verify it, use the reference data or a schematic for the processor. They can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.

The article indicates only a small part of the malfunctions that can be eliminated on their own.

Repairing TV sets with their own hands is not a reckless thing, but a responsible one. And if you even doubted for a split second that you can do it yourself, you should ask a specialist for help.
