Remelting of gold, is it necessary and in what cases

Most likely, everyone had cases in their life when the favorite gold jewelry broke, thin chains burst, one piece from the pair, an earring, was lost, for example. Or just the decoration became irrelevant, out of fashion ... One of the acceptable solutions from this situation is, for example, remelting the rings from gold into a new piece of jewelry.

Before deciding on melting

The melting of gold by itself is an unprofitable event. And the more unprofitable it will be, the smaller the weight of the remelted product. The fact is that when there is a remelting of gold, there is a process of technological abrasion. The volume index of abnormalities directly depends on the sample of the product (the lower the sample, the higher the index) and can reach 10%. Therefore, if a final decision is made to remelt the product, it is better to collect more gold scrap as much as possible, and then to give it to the jewelery workshop.

Remelting of gold products: an individual method

There are two ways of melting gold, and they both do not contain any super complicated technological nuances:

1. Initially, products and scrap are cleaned of dust and dirt.
2. Then, with an individual method of melting scrap is placed in a special cup or even a spoon for melting. To heat the metal, a gas burner is usually used.
3. The molten metal can be pre-alloyed into an ingot for further work with it, or it can be immediately poured into the prepared form.

Remelting gold: a centralized method

Another way of melting gold is called centralized. In this case, not one or two pieces of jewelry are melted, but some gold scrap from different products with different breakdowns.

Here the finished alloy will have a test different from the initial materials. The sample is determined using a special chemical analysis after cooling of the metal. Such remelting of gold is not made with the help of a heating pad - special electric furnaces with electrodes are used. Also, during the melting process for a cleaner metal, graphite powder is used at the outlet. There are also high-frequency furnaces for melting gold, but they are advisable to use them already on an industrial scale.

The duration of the process and its cost

There are many factors affecting both the duration and cost of the process of melting gold scrap and making a finished jewelry. This is the complexity of the product ordered by the customer, and what kind of samples are scrap gold for remelting. Of course, not the last place is the skill of the jeweler, who will work with the product.

On average, the production time can range from a few hours - to melt a simple gold bar - and up to several months, when it comes to a complex weaving jewelry and with inserts of precious stones.

And finally, for those who do not know, I would like to say a few words about what a test is. In itself gold - metal is very soft and unstable before the influence of physical factors. Therefore, for everyday wearing it is not suitable, and to give it a fortress, as well as a special stable shade, gold is fused with other metals such as silver, copper, etc.

So, the same sample is the amount of pure gold in the product in comparison with the amount of impurities of other metals. We can see six samples: 375, 500, 583, 585, 750, 958. Take, for example, the 375th test. This number means that in a thousand grams of the alloy of pure gold was only 375 grams, and the remaining 625 accounted for impurities. Well, accordingly, the 958th test - for one kilogram of pure gold alloy will account for 958 grams, and for impurities - only 42 grams. So the amount of impurities is considered for the remaining samples.
