Raspberry diseases and control

Diseases of raspberries and combating them - this is a very extensive topic. In this article we will consider only some of the existing diseases.

Rust is a very common fungal disease, it affects fruits and leaves of raspberry. In spring, yellowish pads may appear on the leaves from the top, and in summer black, dark and light orange convex spots cover the underside of the leaves. With a sufficiently strong lesion, the leaves shrink and fall off, the yield of raspberry falls. If the humidity is increased, the disease can be delayed until late autumn.

Ways of struggle: we should not allow the thickening of beds, the fruit-bearing shoots of raspberries should be cut off immediately. In autumn and spring the soil needs to be dug, rust-damaged raspberry remnants - to remove and destroy.

Anthracnosis of raspberries is another very common fungal disease. The disease develops in the spring and can last until the fall. On the affected shoots, concave purple spots are formed, then they become gray. The affected bark thickens and acquires a brown hue. Berries are covered with sores and wither. The methods of struggle are the same as in the case of raspberry damage.

In general, raspberry diseases and fighting with them are in most cases very similar. For example, white spotting is another widespread form of fungal raspberry disease. She also suffers from raspberry leaves and berries. On leaves early in the spring brownish spots appear, which then become lighter and turn white. Its peak reaches its peak during the ripening period. Affected by white spotting bushes poorly bear fruit. The methods of struggle are the same as for rust and anthracnose raspberries.

But there are also other diseases of raspberries. And the fight against them is also completely different. For example, a viral disease of chlorosis affects two-year-old stems and leaves. At the initial stage, the leaves along the veins turn yellow, over time the yellowness extends to the entire leaf. The berries wither. The virus remains in shoots, transferred from sick bushes to healthy through insects.

Struggle involves careful selection of material for planting (plants with signs of disease are removed), loosening and fertilizing the soil, spraying bushes from sucking insects. Do not plant a new plantation of raspberries immediately after removing the infected. Once every two years in the soil it is necessary to make compost, humus, peat.

Root raspberry raspberry is a bacterial disease that penetrates the root system through damage that is caused by earthen pests. On the roots of crimson bushes formed growths. Struggle: introduction of phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, manure, timely watering and loosening of the soil. The roots of raspberry seedlings can be disinfected for five minutes in a solution of copper sulfate, after which they should be washed in a solution of boric acid (0.2%). Apparently, raspberry diseases and the fight against them are a complex process that requires large time and physical costs. As mentioned above, the raspberry diseases, photos of which you can see in this article - is quite a broad topic. And to cover it entirely in this material is not possible.

Pest control and raspberry pests

The most common pest of raspberry Is a raspberry beetle. He puts his eggs in flowers, and later on the tops of the ovaries. Hatching larvae penetrate into the fetus and destroy it. For the winter, beetles and larvae go to the soil to a depth of 8 centimeters. Struggle: during the vegetative period, the soil needs to be loosened by adding tobacco dust and wood ash to it. Before the flowering, raspberries can be treated with Iskra or Fosbetsid.

There are also blackish bugs, called strawberry-raspberry weevils. In winter, they hide under fallen leaves and in the soil. These beetles are very voracious, they eat young leaves, after which they dry up and fall off. Eggs are laid in buds. Struggle: during ripening period raspberries should be sprayed with "Iskra", and after harvesting process "Fosbetsidom".
