Rare breeds of dogs

Today in the world there are many different breeds of dogs. Some can be seen on the street several times a day, others, on the contrary, are extremely rare. About what rare breeds of dogs exist in the modern world, and this article will be.

The rarest

Sometimes the concept of "rare dog" can be very conditional. So, for example, in Europe sparrows are considered to be mongrels, which we have a dime a dozen. As for thoroughbred dogs, even here specialists have different opinions as to which breed is the least common. And yet the most rare breed can be distinguished.

Take, for example, a breed like the American hairless terrier. The first such a miracle of nature appeared 40 years ago, in 1972 from rat terriers. Now representatives of this breed only 70 individuals to the whole world. They are born with wool, but after 7-12 weeks it is lost. Because of the lack of woolen covering, hairless terriers require special care. They need to be bathed every week, and so that the skin does not damage the sun's rays, lubricate with sunscreen or wear a special overall. In cold weather, these dogs are recommended not only to dress warmly, but also to shoe so that they do not catch their paws.

Less rare breeds of dogs are round-eared kau and chinook. The homeland of the first is the Azores. Ears at them, as at toy teddies. Now round-eared kaw there are only 72 individuals. By appearance they are remotely similar to Phil Brazilian. As for the Chinook, this breed of dogs is riding. Derived them American Arthur Walden in the early XX century. In 1963 he died, and the breed began to die out. As of 1981, the Chinook was only 11, and only the efforts of enthusiasts did not allow them to disappear forever.

Dogs on the verge of legend

There are rare breeds of dogs that can be called semi-legendary - there is so little information about their numbers. To such, for example, is the white Tibetan mastiff. These animals were used as sentries while traveling along the Great Silk Road. Now they can be seen near the foot of the Niangshan Mountains in Asia. White Tibetan mastiffs were seen infrequently, and therefore in the view of most people they turned into fairy animals. But still they are. In 2010, experts knew of two such dogs that lived outside of China. You can also say that this is not only rare dogs, but also very expensive - the cost of puppies of white Tibetan mastiff is about 1.2 million dollars.

Legend could be and oterhound, or, as it is called, the otter hound. His pedigree dogs of this breed are from the XII century. Otterhoundov was very fond of English and French kings, in particular Henry II and Elizabeth I. This breed has long been popular, but in the early twentieth century, the number of otterhounds began to fall. In 1978 they were declared an endangered breed. If it were not for the efforts of enthusiasts, then we could see these animals only in pictures.

National treasure

Some rare breeds of dogs are well known only within their own country. Take, for example, the Norwegian Elkhound. From Norwegian the name of this breed is translated as "moose dog". They have long been used in hunting - not only for elk, but also for bears. Elkhaund walks well in the harness. By nature, this dog is friendly and cheerful, and can easily find a common language with children. Excellent protection of housing.

In Turkey, a dog of the Catalangurun breed is considered an excellent hunter, which translates as a "forked nose". In Hungary, good service dogs include mudi. They are used for different purposes - as shepherds, watchmen, hunters. But they are not very popular. You can meet them in the border areas of the country.

Some rare pets keep their appearance unchanged for many centuries. There are such cases among dogs. For example, the Thai Ridgeback, according to scientists, has been tracing its ancestry since those distant times when people have just begun to tame the ancestors of modern dogs. Even then he accompanied his masters on a hunt, attacking tapirs, martens, deer, wild boars, mongooses, and guarding shelter from snakes. Later Thai ridgebacks followed the owners' wagons and guarded their property on the road. Due to the isolation of some areas of Thailand, these dogs retained their primitive appearance.
