Punk is ... Panky: description, history and ideology

Subcultures existed at all times. Young people, in the hope of expressing their individuality, tried to dress in a special way, not like everyone else. The clothes followed a special way of thinking, and eventually it grew into an ideology. The world was covered by a wave of hippies, discos, grunge and punk. Punks are considered one of the most provocative of all directions. Everyone has heard about them, and at the same time there are still people wondering: punks are who? Let's try to figure this out.

From music to subculture

Their appearance punk are obliged to the same music direction - punk rock. This style of music appeared in the 70s of the last century in the United States of America and Great Britain. The musicians rebelled against all other directions of rock, which at that time became too lyrical and depressive. So there was punk rock, which retained the fervor of the good old rock'n'roll in conjunction with a primitive play on musical instruments. The primitiveness of the game was deliberate, because punk rock is something that is accessible to all comers.

In the 1970s, the world learned more and more new bands: Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Yes, Led Zeppelin, Genesis. They quickly received universal recognition, and after that, and large fees for concerts. Participants of these groups lived in expensive mansions, drove in chic limousines with personal bodyguards. The one that united them with the punk youth, they gradually did not remain. Their solos on guitars in 12 minutes and performances under the phonogram simply did not resemble what street rebel teenagers were so fond of.

On November 6, 1975, the London College of Arts was shocked by the performance of a defiant punk rock band with a no less evocative title. It was the Sex Pistols. Later they became an idol of punks. They had what it takes for real punk rock: simple chords, a primitive game that does not require a lot of money, and available concerts.

The meaning of the word "punk"

The word "punk" originated from the English colloquial word meaning "bad", "shoddy". It is not known exactly how the idea originated among the representatives, namely, whether they called the insurgent anarchists so, or because their music was called that way. Anyway, the word caught on.

Ideology

The ideology of punks is based on freedom. Punk-subculture stands for the realization of human freedom without any pressure from the outside. In other words, if a person is free to walk, what he wants, then he really should have the opportunity to walk down the street in ragged shoes and not get a poke at the back. Freedom of speech is another important point for them. In their songs punks are not shy in expressions, use obscene language, because the right of freedom of speech is guaranteed by a multitude of conventions on human rights.

Despite the opinions of society, punk is not a fashion at all, but an idea that gives meaning to the representatives of this trend. Many consider this an age factor, as if this is only what will happen after the teenage rebellious age. In reality, this is not always the case. True punk remains so for life.

Characteristic personality traits

The question of what punk is, is not entirely correct. It's better to ask who punk is, and then everything will immediately become clear. One true representative of the subculture is able to give an idea of what the whole direction represents.

Punk is a person striving for independence, in other words, individualism. Such a person, even though he is often among the noisy company, is a loner by himself. He does not care about society with his problems and the needs of others. For punks, anarchy, anti-authoritarianism, antihomophobia, nihilism are characteristic. Punk is an antisocial person who denies any culture that does not respect the older generation on the principle: "If you are old, then you are respected." He is always against any order, power.

Appearance

Punk subculture has its own characteristics, thanks to which it can be distinguished from all others, including external ones. Despite the fact that the appearance for the punks does not matter, they all look similar.

  • Iroquois. This hairstyle originated before the advent of punks. The Indians did it during their secret rites, in order to frighten everyone around. Punks use different options. In the classical version, the hair is shaved, and there is only a strip of long hair along the head. They put them with a varnish like large needles.

  • Hairstyle is a "garbage". Suitable for all who do not like to bother. It's enough just to ruffle your hair, and your hair is ready.
  • Abundance of accessories. These are chains, rivets, stripe, collars, wristbands, pins. They cover the whole image from head to foot according to the rule "the more, the better."
  • Ragged pants. They are torn either specially, in protest, or do not sew up after a fight at a concert. Even if you see piquant areas from the holes in your pants, it does not bother anyone, it's even better. Punk is always freedom and violation of social norms, and sometimes it can shock.
  • The scythe. From bikers they are distinguished by the fact that they are decorated with paint cans. They can have different inscriptions and a lot of rivets.

In the representation of the society

Many years of practice have shown that people refuse to understand what punk is and what it wants to show the world. According to polls conducted by sociologists in the Russian capital, it was revealed that most of the population considers them to be no more than people suffering from schizophrenia. They are considered a deviation from the norm, sick and ill-bred.

On the one hand, this view is fully justified. Many punks themselves prove themselves not from the best side, committing crimes. Propagating freedom of the individual, words, actions, thoughts and views, they did not in the end think that they themselves violate the same freedom of other people. It can not be said that all punks are such because many of them are worthy of respect. Originally punk is an accessible music and a protest against the grayness of life. Over time, turning into a bunch of real ragamuffin, punk lost its true face.

Alas, they are called scum, as in the 70's. Young people who once wanted to gain freedom, as a result, did not find universal recognition. And today there is a decline in punk movement and replacement of it with new directions.
