Proverbs of King Solomon. The Parable of the Ring of King Solomon

King Solomon is a ruler known for his wisdom and ability to make wise and right decisions in situations that seem insoluble. Proverbs of King Solomon are studied in schools, the monarch's quotes are used as parting words, and the life experience of this person is set as an example for those who descended from the right path. This ruler himself was destined to become what he had become. After all, his name Shlomo (Solomon) is translated from Hebrew as "peacemaker" and "perfect".

Ascent to the throne

Solomon was the youngest, fourth son of King David and his wife Bathsheba. The two older brothers, Amnon and Avshalom, died while still very young. The third son, Adonijah, was now the elder. Laws of those times demanded that he take the throne of the king, but David swore to his wife that his successor will be only Solomon, and only to him he will give the right to lead the entire Israeli state. The father's decision aroused grief in Adonijah, so he enlisted the support of those who considered him a more suitable heir. These people were the commander of Joab and the high priest of Eviatar. Those who took the side of Solomon, expressed the opinion that Adonia is not the firstborn son of David, and therefore the monarch could reason the children as he saw fit.

Even during the lifetime of David, Solomon and Adonius began the struggle for the right of power. Adonijah wanted to win over the people to a truly royal feast. He surrounded himself with a large number of horsemen, he started many vehicles and chariots. Adonijah appointed a day when he would declare himself the new ruler of Israel. At the appointed time he gathered all his friends and, in honor of the holiday, arranged a festive celebration in the vicinity of the city. Bathsheba became aware of this event and, turning to the prophet Nathan, she was able to convince her husband to immediately appoint Solomon as the country's leader. Near the source of Gihon, in the presence of the priest Tsadoka, the prophet Nathan and bodyguard detachment, the priest blessed Solomon for the kingdom. All those who, at least with the edge of their ears heard about the perfect rite, recognized the newly-made monarch as their ruler.

Adoniju became aware of what had happened. He was frightened of his brother's wrath and fled to the sanctuary. Solomon promised him his pardon in exchange for a decent behavior. This is told about the parables of King Solomon, which have survived to this day.

Saint Tatevatsi and his interpretation

Grigor Tatevatsi (XIV-XV cc.) - a great philosopher, church figure, teacher and theologian from Armenia. He left an extraordinary mark in the history of literature and science of the Middle Ages. It was he who wrote a work called "Interpretation of the Proverbs of Solomon." It can be safely asserted that the parables of King Solomon, interpreted by Tatevatsi, deserve to be published and scientifically evaluated. "Interpretation of the Proverbs of Solomon" is a book that belongs to the number of works of a moralizing nature, belonging to the pen of Tatevatsi. He, in his own way, interprets and religious morals, which the legendary king puts forward in parables.
