Proim - it's not difficult

When knitting sweaters, jackets, cardigans, dresses and other shoulder products, beginner needlewomen are faced with the question of how to close the armhole. It must match the chosen pattern, be round and look neat.

Consider what an armhole is and how to close it correctly.

A little about the armhole

The patch is the cutout into which the sleeve of the shoulder product is stitched. Also armhole is present on things, the sleeve to which is not provided (no sleeve, T-shirt, sleeveless dress ).

The cutout can be wide, narrow or elongated, depending on the model of the product.

The patch is the so-called curved line, which must be knit in a certain way. In addition to the armhole, to the "curved lines" can be attributed almost all types of throat, rounded sleeves, shoulders, shelves.

Calculating the armhole armhole

Consider the ready-made calculation of the armhole of the left shelf, which you can use when knitting your products.

First, you need to determine the number of loops in the width of the armhole (in the photo, the segment AB). Next, we divide the received number of loops into four identical parts. If it was not possible to divide the remainder, then add it to the part where the lateral seam will go.

In each received part (except the first), the loops again need to be divided into segments. The second segment is divided in this way: 3 + 3, the third - 2 + 2 + 2, the fourth - 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1.

Mark these data on the pattern where the armhole passes. This will help you not to get confused in decreases.

When the knitting of the shelf reaches the armhole, close the six loops at the beginning of the front row. Next, tie the row to the end, turn the work over and close the last three loops in the purl pattern. Continue to decrease to the fourth part, based on the calculations transferred to the pattern.

In the fourth part, subtract one loop in each facial row.

After you decorate the armhole, tie six or seven rows without adding or subtracting. Next, you need to make a few additions (on the diagram they are marked "+"). Add one loop three times at the same distance.

On the same principle, close the armhole of the right shelf and back.

How to decorate an armhole with an elastic band?

In products where the sleeves are not provided, the armhole remains open, so it should be beautifully decorated. Consider a simple way to create a cutout rubber band 1x1 or 2x2.

First, make a shoulder seam of the shelf and backrest and spread the product face up. Now type on the circular knitting needles all the hinges that make up the armhole. This can be done with a spoke or with a hook. The first row is tying your chosen rubber band. Turn the work over and knit on the pattern. When the desired width of the bar is set, close the hinges in an elastic way. In a similar way, treat the second armhole. Sew the edges of the strap and simultaneously make a side seam.
