Phantom 14 Corps of the Kremlin

14 Corps of the Kremlin, built in the Soviet years on the site of the demolished church and monasteries, suffered the same fate. But why did it? What do experts, archaeologists and the president say? Let's understand together.

What was the purpose of the 14th building of the Moscow Kremlin?

The building you are interested in is the former building of the presidential administration, built next to the Senate Palace and the Spassky Gates on the territory of the Moscow Kremlin. The facade of the building was facing the Taynitskaya Tower and the garden with the same name, and also an excellent view of the Moscow River opened from the building. 14 The Kremlin building was formerly one of the buildings that formed the Ivanovo Square of the Detinets. April 2016 was the last month in the life of this building.

Historical reference

The authorities of the Soviet Union decided to develop the state without the participation of persons having a direct relationship to religion. Also this policy included such action as the demolition of churches, monasteries and other religious objects. Unfortunately, in 1929 in the territory of the Moscow Kremlin, Miracles and the Ascension Monasteries, as well as the Small Nikolayevsky Palace, were destroyed. In their place in 1934 the same 14th building of the Kremlin was built. It so happened that the authorities did not name this building, but only appropriated the dry serial number "14". Twenty years later, the Palace of Congresses was built.

For many years they believed that the administrative building was designed by II Rerberg. But in 2014, papers were found that testified that the building was designed by the Moscow architect Vladimir Apishkov. Rerberg, in turn, controlled the construction process.

Until 1935 the building housed the First Soviet Military School, but then it was transferred to Lefortovo.

Then in 1938 the Secretariat of the Presidium and the management of the Kremlin were located in the building.

After 20 years, the building was rebuilt for the Kremlin theater. The auditorium was designed for 1200 seats! Three years later it was closed, because the theater was not suitable for large events.

In the following years, another reconstruction took place. Now the 14th building of the Kremlin belonged to the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. Up until 1991, the Supreme Council met in the corps.

In the summer of the same year, on the fourth floor, the first president of the Russian Federation, Boris N. Yeltsin, began his activities.

From 1991 to 2012, this building housed some units of the presidential administration, the protocol and foreign policy services, as well as the press service.

How did the reconstruction of the building end?

In the first year of the second millennium, it was decided to begin the reconstruction of the hull. By 2011, all units of the presidential administration were transferred to another building. This gave impetus to large-scale repair and construction works. To this end, more than 8 billion rubles have been allocated from the budget. Three years 14 the Kremlin building was hidden behind a cloth by curious visitors.

In 2015, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin issued a decree, in which his decision was taken to demolish the building. By April 2016, from the 14th case, there was nothing left. A little later, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to split the square on the site of the former administration with possible subsequent construction. Moscow Mayor S. Sobyanin agreed with such a proposal. But before the park was broken, archaeologists worked on the ground. They found various objects of the life of the Rusys of the 10th century: iron writing, glass fragments of bracelets, book fasteners, and fragments of a golden flask of the Golden Horde era.

Today, on the site of the 14th building, the square is adorned, it is filled with various paths, benches and elegant Pushkin lanterns. Along the sidewalks are planted thai, bushes of lilac, roses and begonias. At the moment there is no name for the park. The presidential administration promised to correct this shortcoming.

Square with possible further development?

In parallel with the decree on the demolition of the 14th Corps, President Putin asked to develop a project for the construction of monasteries and a palace that had previously been located on the site of the corps.
