Petr Stolypin: brief biography

Petr Arkadevich Stolypin, whose brief biography is of exceptional interest to any Russian historian, was one of the most important political figures of our country of the 20th century. It is about him that will be discussed in this article.

The future head of the Russian government was a descendant of a noble noble family, who had been known since the end of the 16th century. For example, the grandmother of the famous poet Mikhail Lermontov in her maidenhood was Stolypin. State Senator of the first half of the XIX century Stolypin AA was the great-grandfather of our hero. Peter's father was a friend of the writer Leo Tolstoy, and his mother - the niece of Chancellor Gorchakov AM, a classmate of Alexander Pushkin in his lyceum years. The future head of the government was born in 1868. The first years of his life the boy spent in the family estate Sennikovo. Later, the family moved to Lithuania, and then to Orel. It was in Orel that the young man began his studies at the local gymnasium. After its completion, St. Petersburg University was chosen to continue education. In 1885, a young man graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and entered his first government service in the Ministry of Agriculture.

In 1903, a transfer to Saratov took place, where Pyotr Stolypin received the same post. However, it is important to mention that this activity made him pay attention to Moscow officials of the highest rank. And already in 1906 the personality of Peter Arkadevich is considered by the emperor himself as the main applicant for the post of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the country. And in July 1906 (in connection with the dissolution of the State Duma), the resignation of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Goremykin took place. In our place was appointed our hero.

Reforms of the initiative first minister, deployed since 1906, covered several areas. Thus, the reform of industry was called upon to bring workers and business owners to a consensus on matters of labor day, payment, hiring workers, accident insurance and so on. However, the irreconcilable and diametrically opposed positions of both sides prevented the reform from happening. Pyotr Arkadevich paid an important attention to the national issue of the motley empire. According to his initiative, it was proposed to create a special ministry that would study relevant issues in the country and settle them. Unfortunately, such a ministry was never established before his death. However, the most important and famous reform of Stolypin was the agrarian reform . It was designed, first, to create a strong layer of peasants independent of the community, which would become an effective pillar of the country's agriculture, and second, to motivate these peasants to populate the vast expanses of the annexed Siberia. This reform really started to give good results during the minister's life, but was interrupted by the sudden death of the initiator. In September 1911, P. A. Stolypin, while in one of the Kiev theaters, was mortally wounded by one of the agents of the tsarist security department.
