Papula is a problem or not?

Papula is an education on the skin that rises slightly above the level of the skin. Sometimes such a rash appears on the mucous membranes. Papules are small in size, they are well probed. The color of the formations can vary from white to dark brown. The treatment of such pathological elements is handled by a dermatologist.

Description

Papula - what is it? In medicine, any rash on the skin is called papules, but this terminology includes only certain formations:

  • Towering above the skin;
  • Looking like balls;
  • Having a size from a few millimeters to 3 cm.

If the diameter of the formation exceeds 1 cm, it is customary to call it a knot.

When the papule is slightly pressed, it immediately becomes pale. Sometimes education is accompanied by suppuration and swelling. But unlike the white head pustules, this kind of nodules does not.

Principle of origin

The immune system is always in a state of strict control of all processes in the human body. Her reaction to any inflammatory process causes the formation of papules. When sebum accumulates in the pores, ducts, it provokes the expansion of the pores and the emergence of micro-cysts. If there is any external effect on such a cyst (for example, a person tries to squeeze out a pimple that hinders him, there is a mechanical cleaning), then its walls are torn, and all the contents fall into adjacent tissues. Such a gap sometimes happens on its own, without outside help. The immune system reacts to the situation that has arisen, aseptic inflammation appears, and eventually a nodule is formed.

Papula is an education that can occur for one of the following reasons:

  • Thickening of one of the layers of the skin;
  • A neoplasm of any kind;
  • Inflammatory process in the dermis.

Kinds

Defeat may be of different degrees. Starting from this, in medicine there is a certain classification:

  1. Superficial papule. This formation, which is located in the upper layer of the dermis, epidermis. Such a rash does not cause discomfort, painful sensations. The size of the superficial papules is small - 1-5 mm. The color varies from pink to dark red. After the disappearance of this kind of skin rash does not leave a trace. Sometimes a pigmented spot may appear on the skin, which after a while passes without help.
  2. Deep nodes. The size of such formations exceeds 5 mm. When probing, a person feels discomfort, pain. The color range of deep knots is from red to dark blue. Papula on skin of this kind does not pass without a trace. After it there are scars.
  3. Cyst. This type of papule is considered to be the heaviest. If the content of the infiltrate does not completely disappear, the result is a capsule filled with pus or sebum, which is called the cyst. Sometimes a secondary infection joins, which as a result provokes inflammation and suppuration of the contents of the capsule. There are cysts in which there are several chambers.

Papules are divided into inflammatory and non-inflammatory. Inflammatory papule is accompanied by skin swelling, vasodilation. If you press it, it immediately becomes pale.

Depending on the form of the papules are divided into:

  • Conical;
  • Flat;
  • Oval;
  • Round.

Diagnosis and treatment

Many people are worried about the question: is the papula a dermatology? What doctor is involved in her examination? The answer is simple: a dermatologist. First of all, the doctor will carefully examine the papule, determine its appearance. Sometimes nodules indicate the presence of diseases such as chicken pox, dermatitis and other skin problems. Therefore, it is so important to seek medical help and not engage in self-medication.

How is the papule treated? It depends on the cause of its occurrence. If its appearance was provoked by microbes, the doctor should prescribe an antibacterial agent in the form of an ointment or cream.

Sometimes it is recommended to lubricate the nodules with iodine. If the lesions are significant, cover large areas of the skin, then often the doctor prescribes preparations for internal administration.

Sometimes to remove papules resorted to:

  • Cryotherapy;
  • Laserocoagulation;
  • Cosmetic surgical methods.

With minor lesions, the patient is recommended to use traditional medicine recipes. In such cases, sea buckthorn oil, aloe juice, and mummy are good. But you can not choose the method of treatment, even the most innocuous. It is necessary to discuss all the details with a dermatologist who will explain the concept of "papule", what it is and how it is treated.
