When eosinophils are lowered, additional diagnostics are needed

The human body is so perfect that even the smallest part of it fulfills its function. And everyone knows the fact that many diseases at an early stage are asymptomatic. Today, there are many ways to diagnose diseases at an early stage. It is the general blood test that can signal in a timely manner about the changes that have arisen in the body, therefore it is recommended to periodically give blood.

Leukocytes as constituents of blood are responsible for the protective functions of the body and participate in the work of the immune system. The change in their quantitative composition indicates that the immune system does not cope with its functions and an inflammatory process takes place in the body. In this case, additional diagnosis is needed to find the source of inflammation. A very important evaluation factor in the general blood test is the number of eosinophils.

Eosinophils are blood cells, which are one of the types of leukocytes, they are responsible for protecting the human body from foreign proteins. They are usually counted as a percentage of the total number of leukocytes. Their normal ratio is from 0.5 to 5% of the total number of leukocytes. With allergic reactions and infection of the body with helminths, this index increases, so-called eosinophilia occurs.

There are cases when eosinophils are lowered, such a pathology is called eosinopenia. Reducing their number in the postoperative period is a sign of the patient's severe condition. Also, eosinophils are lowered with exacerbation of various infectious diseases or severe intoxication of the body. Eosinopenia in a man manifests itself in the occurrence of stressful situations, when the resistance of the organism decreases. Very often cases are recorded when eosinophils are lowered during pregnancy. In this case, if all the other components of the blood correspond to the norm, eosinopenia is explained by the restructuring in the body of a woman preparing to become a mother. However, in all women eosinophils are lowered during pregnancy, and a sharp decrease in their number can occur directly during childbirth. The same sharp decrease in eosinophils occurs also when severe burns are received.

The mechanism of the onset of eosinopenia and its consequences by modern medicine is not fully understood, and the reasons for reducing eosinophils are called doctors a whole lot. Therefore, when eosinophils in the blood are lowered, treatment is advisory in nature. In particular, eosinopenia in combination with leukocytosis testifies to active inflammation in the human body, most likely at the initial stage. Therefore, in this case, further diagnosis is necessary in order to understand why eosinophils are lowered.

Eosinopenia occurs much less frequently than eosinophilia, therefore, the description of its effects is less common. But in both cases, a compulsory consultation of a specialist doctor is necessary. Recent studies have shown that eosinophils are lowered in the treatment with corticosteroid hormones, which is prescribed in the event of acute allergic reactions. Children often have an increase in the number of eosinophils than a decrease. The exception is children with Down syndrome. Often eosinophils in the blood are lower in premature infants in combination with sepsis.

Minor fluctuations in the quantitative composition of eosinophils occur within 24 hours, and their number increases at night. The age factor also makes its changes in their quantitative composition, although the percentage ratio to leukocytes remains constant.
