Original photo project: what does our favorite food look like

The photo project "Food in a cut" from Beth Galton and Charlotte Omnes is a non-standard and fresh look at the products that we are used to eating every day. In it, the most ordinary culinary products - from donuts with coffee to baked turkey - appeared in unconventional images.

Cut in half and presented in pairs, they turned through the works of the creators of the project in spectacular and mouth-watering works of art.

How did the original plan come about?

The pretentious idea of showing culinary products from within was born spontaneously. Working on another order, New York food photographer Beth Galton faced an unusual task - to shoot the burrito cut in half. Rich in the color of the filling of the Mexican "shawarma" in front of the camera's lens made a strong impression on her. And it's true, cheese with beans, rice with minced meat and tomatoes, dressed with chili or sour cream, is an exciting sight, especially if you do not have time to touch them. Probably, Beth Galton also decided the same way, wondering at the same time: how would other products look in cross section? The original idea to create a series of photos with ordinary dishes, she embodied with a talented food stylist Charlotte Omnes. Picking up the right products, the masters started the experiment.

Difficulties of photographing, or How to cut soup?

The work on the project turned out to be not only an exciting, but also a time-consuming process. After all, every culinary product required an individual approach. Cut, for example, eggs or a donut was not difficult.

However, the shooting of liquid dishes in a cut demanded from Galton and Omnes this ingenuity. So, in the soup had to add gelatin to create a thick consistency, and pieces of noodles on the cut - stain, so they looked appetizing. Preparing for filming the stuffed turkey, the creators went to special tricks. Galton and Omnes tried to cut the frozen bird with a hacksaw. However, this method did not justify itself, and they resorted to the help of a band saw. To work with some objects, including over a picture of coffee with milk, digital retouches were invited.

To get spectacular pictures, the creators of the project made enormous efforts. Not one dozen times clicked the camera before it managed to catch the spectacular frame. So, pour flakes of milk in front of the lens had repeatedly, so that each element was in its place. In the end, this picture was one of the favorites of Galton and Omnes. However, they were satisfied with all the images included in the project. After all, when choosing products, they relied on their own tastes. When Galton asked the question, whether they tried the remainder of their experiments, she replied: "Never!".

Will the "Food in the cut" continue?

At the end of the project, its creators decided to rest for a while and take up other ideas. However, this does not mean that they will not return to him. It is possible, in the future, Galton and Omnes will please fans of photo art and cooking with a new sensational cycle of photographs.
