Obstetric pessaries: description and indications for prescribing

In medicine, obstetric pessaries are used to maintain the uterus and bladder in a normal state during pregnancy. These products in their appearance resemble ordinary rings, connected together. Pessaries are made of a biologically pure elastic material. The edges of the product are smoothened, so it does not injure internal tissues.

Purpose

The rings of the Golgi (the second name of the pessaries) are carefully inserted into the vagina and hold the cervix, preventing it from opening. Their main function is to redistribute the load. Thanks to this, the pressure of the fetus on the neck is significantly reduced.

Description

Obstetric pessaries can be of a variety of sizes. It is only the doctor who can properly select the product according to the anatomical features of the woman after a detailed examination of the patient. Golgi rings are also shown to women who have a history of premature births, miscarriages at later periods, dysfunction of the ovaries, progressive changes in the cervix, including cicatricial deformity. Indication is also a multiple pregnancy. If a woman is engaged in hard work, she is also prescribed gynecological rings.
