Night lenses for vision recovery: reviews of doctors

Vision is one of the most important processes of processing information received by a person from the outside. From its sharpness depends on how much the quality will be the perception, analysis and conclusions about the visible objects and the situation around the person as a whole.

Unfortunately, not all people can boast of perfect vision: very many suffer from such eye diseases as hyperopia or myopia. To eliminate these drawbacks, many methods of correction were invented: glasses, daytime lenses, eye surgery. However, not all of these methods can be comfortable for the patient. That is why in recent years, the use of such a tool as night lenses to restore vision has become quite common.

Night Lenses - what is it?

In appearance, they are similar to ordinary daytime - these are exactly the same transparent or slightly bluish round "plates". However, they have a more rigid basis and are used exclusively during sleep. Lenses of night correction are breathable, therefore occurrence of dryness and burning sensation in eyes is excluded almost completely. In addition, the patient uses them because of the particular conditions of use with closed eyelids and for a shorter amount of time than daylight lenses. And the latter, as is known, even with the highest quality characteristics and all the inherent softness, often cause stinging and discomfort.

The official name of the method of correction of vision, which uses night lenses - orthokeratology, so they are also called orthokeratological, or, briefly, OK-lenses.

Operating principle

During sleep, night lenses actively affect the cornea of the eye by pressure, thereby forming it and redistributing the load. The upper layers of the epithelium are leveled, but the patient does not feel anything. At first, some dryness in the eyes is possible, but it is eliminated by dropping drops that soften the lens and allow it to spread as much as possible on the surface. After sleep OK-lenses are removed. The result of the application is an increased quality of vision, maximally close to unity. It lasts for 24 hours at least.

Validity

Each term of OK-lenses is purely individual and depends on the severity of myopia, as well as other side effects that may affect the result. However, 1-3 days is a stable period of time during which corrective night lenses can provide vision equal to one.

To maintain the diopter at the proper level, OK-lenses do not need to be worn every night. The entire cycle consists of 1 day - sleep with lenses, and the next few days - sleep without lenses before the onset of impaired vision. The necessary period of application is determined by the doctor.

Features

It can be noted that the principle of action of this tool is similar to laser correction - the cornea flattenes in exactly the same way as in a surgical procedure. However, night lenses for improving vision have one feature - the effect of their effects is reversible. That is, after a certain time, the cornea returns to its original position and myopia returns.

By the way, that's why night lenses for children are considered the best way to correct vision, since the eye is still in the stage of formation, and laser surgery is possible only from 18 years. In addition, it will be more convenient for parents to control the wearing process, built in this way.

Cases of use

Although night lenses are the optimal means for correcting myopia (myopia), however, when selecting them, it is worth remembering that with a high degree of disease they can be powerless. The standard correction range is -1 to -7 diopters.

According to multiple studies, the greatest effectiveness can be achieved using night lenses with myopia no more than -5 diopters. In this case, the restoration of vision to unity is guaranteed. If the patient has a vision lower than -5 diopters, the functioning of the eye can be rehabilitated to 70-75%.

It is worth noting that the effect is noticeable after the first application of night lenses. Feedback from patients and attending physicians also confirms other information: after regular application for already 1 week to the observed, vision returns almost 100%.

In some cases, at the end of the day there is a slight decrease in severity, but this is due to excessive eye strain due to long computer work, lack of lighting, writing or reading.

Advantages of night lenses

Lenses for night vision correction have many positive aspects:

- The process is carried out directly during sleep, so the eyes not only do not get tired of wearing lenses, but rather rest;

- there is no need to think about whether they go to you or not - night lenses for restoring vision are completely invisible, especially with lowered eyelids;

- they can not be broken or broken like glasses;

- night contact lenses do not require surgical intervention;

- ideal for those who lead an active lifestyle, go in for sports;

- equally good night lenses for children and adults: with the onset of myopia progression, there is every chance to stop it at an early stage, and if it already exists, block its development;

- all night lenses have a long period of wearing - not less than one and a half years, which largely saves money and eliminates the need to regularly go in search of suitable soft daylight;

- Even if night lenses for restoring eyesight do not taste, they can always be replaced by another habitual way of adjusting;

- will be an excellent alternative for those who are not recommended for laser surgery;

- do not cause allergic reactions, and in some cases, perform the prevention of diseases such as conjunctivitis and keratitis;

- Night lenses for improving eyesight, due to their wearing characteristics, do not allow dust, particles of cosmetics and dirt to settle on their surface;

- If you are in a room with dry air or air conditioning do not have to use moisturizing drops.

Who will use OK lenses?

As already mentioned, night lenses for children are perfect. Reviews of adults who have already followed the recommendations of ophthalmologists, suggest that the complaints of the child for dryness and discomfort in the eyes accompanying the wearing of diurnal lenses have disappeared. The need to wear a spare pair and a moisturizing solution has disappeared. In addition, as is known, children do not like to wear glasses, so the use of night lenses has saved them from ridicule from classmates and made it possible to feel more comfortable in physical education classes.

Night lenses will also suit almost all adults whose profession or working conditions do not have to wear ordinary daytime lenses or glasses: athletes, climbers, coaches, builders, rescuers, workers.

How to choose night lenses?

The process of selecting night lenses is complicated enough, so it should only be done by an ophthalmologist-specialist. During the consultation, the doctor will not only determine the level of myopia, but also measure the degree of curvature of the cornea, its composition, and also identify the presence of contraindications preventing the use of OK lenses.

When all the necessary parameters have been clarified, the orthokeratologist will begin selecting the night lenses for vision restoration. After the first application, vision will improve noticeably, but not 100%. To achieve maximum effect, it takes about 7-10 days, or from 2 to 5 applications. At the end of a certain period, you should again go to the ophthalmologist to take a preventive examination, which will reveal the tendency to improve vision, and also to prescribe the necessary auxiliary medicines and procedures.

Side effects on first use

Disorders and some complications can occur both during the primary use of night lenses, and much later. Initially, side effects manifest themselves in the form of an inadequate reaction of the pupil to light sources, the presence of vague contours in objects and easy bifurcation, dizziness and some loss of orientation in space. Most often, such disorders take place only 1-2 days after the first use of OK lenses. If the unpleasant sensations and distortion of vision become regular or worsen, the oculist should be consulted immediately.

Possible complications

More complex side effects are observed in patients who have received eye trauma after the appointment of OK-therapy, or who did not follow the simplest rules of hygiene. These include:

- erosion;

- edema;

- inflammation.

Some patients mistakenly believe that night lenses are to blame for everything. The doctors' comments on this method of myopia correction suggest the opposite: in most cases, the appearance and aggravation of any eye disease during OC therapy becomes an ill-timed appeal to the oculist and failure to comply with the standard rules for wearing night lenses and vision hygiene.

Contraindications to wearing

Like ordinary daytime, night OK lenses have some contraindications to wearing. Namely, the presence of the following diseases:

- chronic diseases of the anterior part of the eye;

- recurrent inflammations of the eye;

- chronic inflammatory processes on the face.

In addition, an expert orthokeratologist is unlikely to write night lenses for children or adults, if the patient does not have the opportunity to comply with the rules of wearing and processing lenses, and attend preventive examinations.

Reviews about night lenses

Interrogated, regularly applying night lenses for 2-6 months, first of all unanimously report about higher comfort of use, rather than during daytime. It is caused by the fact that during the day there is no feeling of dryness in the eyes, there is no need to additionally moisten the cornea with special means, there is no fear to damage or lose the lens, since it simply does not exist.

Patients who previously wore glasses, note that they began to feel more relaxed and free. The same thing is said by parents who bought night lenses for children: the reviews testify in favor of not only physical, but also psychological comfort.

Despite all the positive aspects, about 70% of respondents say that it took them about 5-7 days to finally get used to a new method of vision correction. At first, there was some blurring of objects and a halo around the light sources, but after 2-3 subsequent applications of the lens discomfort disappeared.

The only negative, according to users, is a rather high cost for a one-time payment. The average cost of lenses themselves, examination by a specialist and consumables costs an average of 16,000-18,000 rubles in Russia. However, if this amount is compared with the cost of purchasing soft contact lenses, solutions and drops, the overall night lenses pay off within 1.5 years.

Doctors, for their part, recommend night lenses as the most appropriate way of correcting and preventing myopia in school-age children at the moment. But it should be remembered that until 11-12 years the parents of the child will need to regularly monitor the regularity of use and compliance with the rules of hygiene OK-lenses.

Today, night lenses are perhaps the only method of correcting vision that can replace a laser operation. Although the effect is short-lived, but the use of orthokeratology is still the only way to increase visual acuity for some time without using additional optical means.
