Nasal bleeding: first aid and underlying causes

Our people often engage in self-medication, not wanting to visit a doctor once again or seek medical help. Proceeding from this, for many will be useful information that will tell what is nosebleeds and what primary care should be provided to the victim.

Useful for everyone

It is worth noting that such information will be useful to all people without exception. Especially it is useful to families where there are children, because they often cause themselves various injuries and break their noses. What should I do first and what should I avoid?

Main reasons

First, you should consider why nosebleeds may occur . First aid is the next, but not less important, information. Why can there be bleeding from the nose? Main reasons:

- consequence of infectious diseases (eg, influenza);

- a consequence of chronic diseases ( kidney disease or blood disease);

- mechanical injuries of the nose (strokes, too zealous "picking" in the nose);

- beriberi, especially vitamin C deficiency (for children);

- atmospheric phenomena (pressure drops, overheating).

These are the most common signs of nasal bleeding. But there are other, less common and rather rare reasons, which at this stage there is no need to consider.

Help

It is also worth considering what kind of first aid should be given for bleeding. So, the main thing is to calm the person, and also to force him to take the right position. Mistake is advice when a person is recommended to lie on his back and throw his head back so that blood does not flow out of the body. This is fraught with frequent ingestion of blood, which can cause irritation of the stomach. With a problem such as nosebleeds, the first help is to sit up, leaning forward slightly. So the pressure on the veins will somewhat weaken and the bleeding will soon cease. It is also necessary to pinch the nose with your fingers (most often bleeds the nasal septum), which will help the blood to stop faster. Hold the clamped nose for at least 10 minutes, while breathing is necessary only with the mouth.

If nasal bleeding has stopped, first aid in this case: try to keep the head straight for a couple of hours afterwards, above the level of the heart, do not bend over. It is also highly discouraged to pick at the nose or blow your nose. To release a nose from all superfluous that there has collected, it is better slightly later, after a stop of a bleeding. If after a while the bleeding starts again, it is best in such a situation to vigorously blow your nose (to release the nose from the remaining blood clots), rinse your nose, if possible, drip with a decongestant spray and re-do all of the above. Further it is recommended to call a doctor.

Medical help

If, as a result of a stroke or a fall, nosebleeds appeared, the first aid provided to the victim would be insufficient. In such a situation, it is better to call a doctor to avoid complications. It is also worthwhile to seek medical help if the blood from the nose goes for more than 20 minutes. So you can lose a lot of blood and make trouble. If a person has frequent nosebleeds, first aid is good, but not enough. In this situation, it is also better to contact a specialist to find out the cause and to exclude the negative development of events.
