Myoma of the uterus - what is its danger?

Myoma of the uterus. Fibromioma. Fibroma. Leiomyoma. All these names refer to one of the most common gynecological diseases, which is diagnosed almost every third or even second woman. Myoma is a benign tumor that occurs, as a rule, in women between the ages of thirty and forty.

It should be noted that the uterine myoma at early stages of development is completely asymptomatic. This disease can be detected only during a visit to a gynecologist for a routine examination. However, some symptoms of uterine fibroids can be identified. This uterine bleeding, violations of the functions of a number of organs, pain in the lower abdomen and infertility. In addition, myoma is associated with nervousness, worsening of the general condition, increasing pain syndrome, engorgement of the mammary glands and anemization. But the reasons for which the myoma appears and begins to grow, is still unknown. It is believed that an important factor in the development of this disease is the hereditary factor, as well as an increased content of estrogens in the blood.

Doctors are well aware that myoma can be either single or multiple. In addition, taking into account the location of the nodes and the direction of tumor growth, the following types of myoma can be distinguished:

  • Intramural or interstitial myoma, whose nodes are located in the thickness of the muscle layer;

  • Submucous myoma, when tumor growth occurs towards the uterine cavity;

  • Subserous myoma, when tumor growth occurs towards the abdominal cavity.

Moreover - the symptoms of fibroids are largely determined by how the myoma grows. So, for example, for submucosal growth of myoma, at which it extends into the uterus, long, painful and profuse menstruation is characteristic . The subperitoneal growth of fibroids may be manifested not only by the pain in the lower abdomen, but also by impaired functions of the bladder and intestine. Intermuscular localization of fibroids can cause a dull drawing pain in the lower abdomen - if the tumor is small and grows in the thickness of the muscular wall of the uterus.

Do not underestimate the danger of fibroids. To denote all its harmfulness, it is enough to say that myoma during pregnancy can cause both premature births and miscarriage, as well as various violations of the development of the fetus. Treatment of fibroids should not be put off for a long time.

Indeed, we must also say that we have already learned how to treat myoma, while the treatment of uterine fibroids can be carried out in different ways, both conservatively and surgically. As a rule, doctors of the gynecological department select for each patient such a treatment program that best suits her. However, in some cases, you can not do without surgery. So, for example, doctors recommend to resort to surgical interventions if the uterine myoma is large and grows rapidly if there is severe pain and when it comes to submucous myoma. In addition, the operation is indicated if the patient has too long and abundant discharge during menstruation, leading to anemia, and also a violation of the function of neighboring organs and, especially, if the myoma is located in the cervix.

It is important to remember that with the help of timely treatment can be cured fibroids with minimal consequences for the woman's body, and prevent many complications, one of which can be cancer. The best prevention of fibroids is regular, accurate passage of medical examinations.
