Movies with an unpredictable end. The best and most exciting films with an unexpected ending

Now it's so hard to surprise an experienced spectator that the filmmakers are literally on all imaginable and unimaginable steps. But some seemingly completely new techniques, over which writers sweat over the years, evoke in modern film fans only indifferent laughter and eloquent yawns.

Films with an unpredictable end or war for spectator attention

Each genre of cinema has its own principles of conquest and retention of the audience, but many of them are solidary in one thing - an unexpected ending intrigues the viewer best. However, thanks to the popularity of this method, films with an unpredictable end have already taken root too much. An experienced cineman will always be able to determine the presence of such an ending in advance, only after viewing the first fifteen minutes of timing, since he develops a strong immunity to all "unexpected" and "surprising." There are apogees that evoke even the enthusiastic film enthusiasts, and there are others who literally spoil the great idea of the film in just a few seconds.

Talented cinema is talented in everything.

First and foremost, we should consider films in which the plot itself is good, and the ending in the style of "Oh, what a turn!" Is justified and logical. In general, films with an unpredictable end are, by and large, horrors and thrillers, in which there is an element of atmospheric injection, after which the spectator is "finished off" with a plot twist at the end. A good example is the Thai movie horror film "Inseparable". Americans are so imbued with it that in two years they released a remake, calling it "Uninvited". Solidarity with them the creators of the film "Pandorum": the ending, although not particularly explained logically, but makes the hair on his head slightly move. Along with them is worth mentioning the classic picture of "Others" with Nicole Kidman in the title role, the final scenes of which make you rethink the entire film. One of the most popular examples of the "turning" ending is the first part of the film "Saw". Surely no one expected that a cold corpse, all the timing was lying motionless, suddenly rise and turn out to be the main villain. There are less well-known films with unpredictable end, such as, for example, "Highway", "Primeval Fear", "Devil" and "Statics".

Gross butter ... you'll spoil it?

However, it is easy to spoil good cinema with such end-points. Seeing this, the viewer, with a few seconds of patting his eyes, will stick to the film a fat "deuce" and complains that a good original idea was shamelessly spoiled. A very good example is the recent premiere - "Trans" with James McEvoy in the title role. Declaring himself as an intellectual and thoughtful cinema, at the very end the film slides into utter chaos. The identical situation is observed in the picture "Hell". Films with an unpredictable end will not save even a good cast, if the creators use the "intrigue for the sake of intrigue". The same mistake was made in the film Prestige. A mystical and slightly historical film literally turned into children's fiction in just a few minutes, provoking a broad but sympathetic smile among many spectators. A similar situation occurred with the film "I am a legend", based on the novel of the same name by Richard Matheson. The original finale is inverted, and this greatly distorts the main idea of the work and its morals.

Movies that you can watch from the end

The list of films with an unpredictable end is quite significant, and then it would be logical to mention those films that were successful thanks to the use of this technique. For starters, you can recall the passing picture "Dexterous Hands". Despite the brilliant Stewart Townsend, who played the Lestat vampire in The Queen of the Damned, the movie is very boring and measured. Lovers of stories about major card scams and winnings, maybe, and will watch this film to the end, and only in this case will not be disappointed. A very similar problem is observed with the tape "Phantoms", a remake of the Thai "Zatvor". As already mentioned above, the films with the most unexpected endings are often horrors, and the "Phantoms" is claimed precisely in this movie genre. However, it is able to frighten the viewer in this movie is just the ending. The film "Child of Darkness" suffers from the same syndrome. The film itself is not particularly interesting to watch, the plot is sagging, and the dialogues seemed to come up with five-year-old children. But the final shots eliminate the sense of wasted time and even allow to call the film "a strong average".

The plot twist as a guarantee of spectator frustration

The best films with an unpredictable end can cause the viewer to feel irritated or unfair, and some of them are almost forced to howl with anger. The creators of such a movie, however, expect to evoke such emotions in film-lovers. Spectators who know about the possibility of such an ending and are worried about the protagonist, almost pray that their suggestions are wrong. This state of affairs is observed in the loud thriller "Paradise Lake". The heroine struggles to survive an hour and a half of timekeeping, but in the end, thanks to the plot twist, it still overtakes the worst outcome. Many people know the movie "Seven", which shows the emotional suffering of Gwyneth Paltrow, Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. For two and a half hours the viewer is attached to the hero Pitt, so this denouement makes him completely frustrated and sometimes even an easy shock and a refusal to believe in what happened. Another exciting film with an unexpected ending is Sinister. Although his last moments are classics of the genre "horrors", the viewer still feels as if he took a candy right under his nose.

Ambiguity and existentialism

Sometimes the reception of an unexpected ending leaves the viewer with a field for reflection, giving the film a so-called "open ending". "The 25th hour" with Edward Norton in the title role allows film enthusiasts to independently think through further developments. Considering that "the 25th hour" is a fairly measured and slightly sad life drama, such an ending is some kind of allegory. The creators show the viewer that in life there is always a choice, on which fate depends. However, there are thrillers with an unexpected ending, the list of which is headed by the British film "Heartless". Somehow it is impossible to interpret the finale of this movie unequivocally, that's why the viewer feels hope and bright faith in a better future for the hero. Also in this list it would be logical to see the picture "Triangle". The film itself is very ambiguous, and the ending is exactly the same.

"Everything started so well!"

But it is precisely such a frenzied popularity of the reception of an unexpected ending that is guilty of the fact that not very talented directors use it with might and main, sometimes quite inappropriately. Most often, they are the creators of horror films. For example, "My Bloody Valentine 3D" is a generally good movie with an unexpected ending, which is not explained in any way. Perhaps the fact is that the main role here is Jensen Ackles, and the director has relied on his green eyes, and not on the deliberate and logical nature of the script. In any case, the ending is very predictable and looks too far-fetched. Absolutely the same can be said about the "Midnight Express" - a horror film in 2008 with Bradley Cooper in the title role. It seems that a successful picture with a masterly pumped atmosphere and interesting characters is badly spoiled by an unsuccessful and supposedly unexpected ending. It would be much more logical to show the development of the plot consistently or to give the viewer some hints of such a finale, but taking it out of nowhere is too ill-considered.

Do not know how - do not try

Some unsuccessful films do not save even an unexpected and intriguing ending. Most often in such films about the similar outcome of events the viewer can guess even at the initial credits. A vivid example is the picture "The Chamber" with the beautiful Amber Hurd. Logical failures in the plot, bad acting and strange lighting already create not the best impression, so the "unexpected" ending struggles to surprise the disappointed viewer. But the final flies into the tartaras, along with all the timing, being equally disastrous. The same can be said about the "Devourer of Souls", the script of which, it seems, was written under the impression of someone's unhealthy dream. Sometimes it seems to the filmmakers that the more they confuse the viewer and the more incomprehensible words they say, the more interesting the film will seem to him. However, everything works exactly the opposite. Unexpected ending in the same way did not pull out the failed films "Forbidden Zone", "Astral" and "Apollo 18", although the calculation was clearly on her.

A good movie is a needle in a haystack

Why is it now so popular to leave the finale of the film in limbo or to "reward" the picture with nothing motivated by the plot turn in the end, it's difficult to answer. Most likely, the modern film market is so full of completely different products that the filmmakers and screenwriters have simply nothing to offer to the potential consumer. But this does not make real moviegoers to lose heart, because the more they remove obscenity, the more they appreciate a truly talented movie.
