Mount Fisht - the highest peak of Lagonaki

At the junction of Europe and Asia at 1100 km stretches a majestic mountain chain, formed by arrays and ridges of the Greater Caucasus. Passing through the territories of Russia, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, this system begins near the Black Sea coast in the resort city of Anapa and ends on the Apsheron peninsula of the Caspian Sea (the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan). On the axial part of the Greater Caucasus is the Main Caucasian Range (GKH), which is also called the Watershed, because it serves as a conditional topographic line dividing the basins of the Inguri, Rioni, and Kura rivers in the southern part and in the northern part of the Kuban, Terek, Sulak, and Samur.

The westernmost point of the GKK and the entire Caucasus is the famous Fisht mountain, which is 2,867 m high - the highest of the three peaks of the Fisht-Oshten massif formed by Fisht in cooperation with Oshten and Psheho-Su. Their distinctive feature is in geographic location. The mountains are the first in the Caucasus (from the west to the east), with alpine-type peaks that extend far above the extreme border of the forest with characteristic zones of alpine and subalpine meadows.

Administratively, Mount Fisht is located on the territory of the Republic of Adygea. Its name in the translation from the local dialect sounds like "White Head". This is due to the presence of glaciers on its slopes. Due to this feature and a significant elevation above sea level, Mount Fisht with its snow-white peak is visible far beyond Adygea. Admire its beauty from afar can residents and visitors of a number of cities in the Krasnodar region, such as Sochi, Armavir, Krasnodar, Timashevsk.

In the place where the Fisca glaciers melt , three mountain rivers originate: Psheha and Belaya, which are left tributaries of the river. Kuban, and Shahe, flowing into the Black Sea.

The climatic conditions in the area of this mountain are not very mild and stable. On the contrary, for these places, sharp changes in temperature and a change in the direction and speed of the wind are characteristic . During the off-season, strongest snow storms and heavy snowfalls are possible here, so the ascent to Fisht is usually planned for July-September, and ski tours - for February-April. Relatively flat slopes of the Lagonaki uplands and the presence of the forest zone minimize avalanche danger in the area and facilitate a hike in the mountains for tourists, which is carried out along the classical route 1B and does not require special skills and the use of complex equipment.

Mount Fisht is an incubator for more than 120 species of endemic plants. Those. The only place on earth where plants of vegetation grow. Therefore Fisht, like the other Lago Naki Mountains, possessing a unique composition of flora and fauna, is a part of the territory of the Caucasian State Reserve and has the status of a specially protected natural monument included in the Unesco World Heritage List. Here are rare rare species of animals that live exclusively in these places. 25 of them are listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation, and 8 species appear on the list of the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
