"Mars" - a bar of nougat and caramel

"Mars" (a bar) is a British chocolate treat. For the first time it was manufactured in 1932 in the UK and appeared on sale as a chocolate brand Couverture.

History of appearance

In 1932, Forrest Mars, the son of the American candy manufacturer Frank Mars, rented a factory in Slough and, working with a team of twelve people, began the production of a chocolate bar consisting of nougat and caramel. The bar was covered with milk chocolate on top and was modeled after Milky Wei, which was already popular in the US. At present, the main recipe remains unchanged, but the size of the bar and the proportions of the main components have changed more than once in all the years. With minor variations, this classic version is sold worldwide (except for the US), and everywhere the chocolate is packed in a black wrapper with a red inscription.

Recent Changes

In 2002, the appearance of "Mars" was revised, and its logo was updated to a more modern one. Its price has also increased slightly. The composition of the Mars bar also changed - the nougat became lighter, the chocolate layer on top became thinner, and the total weight of the chocolate was slightly reduced.

In Australia, the logo "Mars" has never changed - and to date, the appearance of the packaging is the same as before 2002. The original advertising slogan, which is used now almost all over the world, sounds like "A pleasure that you can not measure."

Kinds

"Mars" is a bar that appears on sale in various forms. In addition to the classic packaging weighing 58 grams, you can buy miniature bars weighing 19.7 grams and 36.5 grams. Previously on sale often met "Mars King Siz", which weighed 84 grams. Now it is discontinued and replaced with Mars Duo, consisting of 2 bars of 42.5 grams each.

Previously, the standard "Mars" weighed 62.5 grams, until it was reduced by the manufacturer's decision. In Australia, the mass of the produced classic bar is 53 grams. This change was not announced initially. But when consumers noticed how much less the usual "Mars" bar had become, the manufacturer commented on the innovation as a means of fighting the mass obesity of the population. Later, the company confirmed that the real reason for the change was the increase in costs.

Features of sale in the USA

"Mars" (a bar) is sold almost everywhere in the world in an unchanged form, with the exception of the United States. The American version was withdrawn from production in 2002 and was replaced by a variety of "Snickers" with nougat, almond and milk chocolate on top.

Limited Edition

In addition, "Mars" - a chocolate bar, which was produced in a limited "circulation" with a changed composition in different countries. In some regions, these versions are on sale almost regularly.

So, there is "Mars Dark", which is produced in Canada on a permanent basis and appears in the form of limited series in European countries. Its difference from the classical version is that it is covered with dark chocolate on top, not with milk chocolate.

Also in some countries different forms of this chocolate are produced, tied to any events. The "Mars" is known in the form of Easter eggs, which is available in Europe every spring.

Release in Australia

Australia is the only country where "Mars" (a bar) is released in a variety of variations to the present. In addition, only there were various original chocolate packages. The most famous of them are the following.

"Mars Triple Chocolate" - an option that, despite this name, includes chocolate nougat and chocolate caramel. It was also available in a limited edition in the UK in August 2011 and then re-released in 2015 as Mars Xtra Choc.

A bar of Mars Cold (available not only in Australia, but also in New Zealand and the UK) - was distinguished by an original wrapper. The name was written on the packaging not red, but white, which turned blue when placed in the cold.

In August 2007, Mars Rock was produced, in which was added chocolate nougat and a thick layer of caramel. The bar was covered with milk chocolate with added crunchy elements (the main ingredients of which are wheat flour and sugar).

Currently available for sale is Mars Red. It has a red wrapper, and the name is written in black. This option is considered less caloric.

"Mars 100% Caramel" is available in Australia since January 2011. It is a standard-sized bar, but it does not contain nougat. Was available in the UK in a limited "circulation" in 2012.

Also, "Mars" (a bar) produces vanilla (nougat has a vanilla flavor) and honey (nougat has the taste of honey in honeycombs).

Other brand products

Since the chocolates of this manufacturer have gained popularity all over the world, a number of other products with the same name appeared. The most famous and common ones are sweets and ice cream. They are available in many countries, including Russia and the CIS.

Ice cream is produced both in the form of bars, and large packaged portions, and is a mixture of nougat, caramel and filling.

Also in European countries, the Mars drink series is popular - chocolate cocktails and energy specialists.

Why are Mars bars being called?

In early 2016, there was news that in some batches of "Mars" were discovered plastic impurities. In this regard, the manufacturer decided to withdraw part of the products sent to different countries. In total, several batches of chocolates from 55 countries were returned. As it turned out later, Russia did not touch upon these events.
