Cats live near the man for hundreds of years. Animals that catch mice were very expensive, so for a long time they were considered a luxury. Only the representatives of noble estates could afford to keep the purr. The appearance of cats in people with a small income became possible only in the XVI century. Then the animals were used as housekeepers. Nobody thought that centuries later a festive holiday would be established. But today nobody is surprised that March 1 is International Cat Day.

Throughout history, people have deified a mysterious animal, worshiped it, or, conversely, it was considered the descent of hell. In Egyptian mythology, the cat's head is the goddess Bastet, who patronizes women and motherhood. Cats lived in a temple dedicated to the goddess. The priest looked after the animals.

In the Middle Ages, church officials did not like cats, especially black cats, who considered them to be reincarnated witches.

Therefore, at that time many animals died at the stake of the Inquisition. Honored love returned to the cats in the Renaissance - the heyday of science and art. Animals attracted the attention of artists, sculptors, scientists. Several centuries ago people thought about the development of new breeds of these creatures, and today the domestic cat is represented by more than thirty varieties.

These animals are very self-sufficient. In their minds, they are much superior to dogs, but they practically do not give in to training, because they find fulfillment of all the requirements of a person meaningless for themselves.
