Mammoplasty and pregnancy

The operation to change the shape and size of the breast - mammoplasty - is considered the recognized leader in plastic surgery. Mammaplasty includes different types of operations. The most popular of these is breast augmentation surgery. In this regard, plastic surgeons are usually treated by young patients, sometimes very young - up to 18 years. The reason for this treatment is a small breasts with the nature, the size of which begins to excite the girl precisely to this age. However, to do mammoplasty before the age of 23, when the growth and formation of the mammary glands are coming to an end, plastic surgeons are not advised. The fact that breast growth with inserted implants in it can significantly worsen its natural form.
There is one more limitation for mammoplasty, namely for breast augmentation - this is pregnancy and breastfeeding. An experienced surgeon will necessarily explain to a woman that mammoplasty is undesirable before delivery and that it is better to perform it after breastfeeding. This is due to the fact that mammoplasty can be damaged nerve endings of the mammary glands, which significantly complicates the process of lactation and feeding the child. A particularly high risk of damage to nerve endings occurs if the incision was made in the areola area.
In addition, problems that may occur during lactation and feeding, such as mastitis and lactostasis (milk stagnation), are more difficult to resolve if there are implants in the breast. Sometimes it may even be necessary to remove the implant. Actually, the implant can provoke mastitis and lactostasis, since the process of breast strain is difficult because of the presence of a foreign body in the mammary gland. There is another danger: during breastfeeding, there is a risk of damage to the implant. If this happens, an operation to remove the implant will also be required. Therefore, it is better to postpone the plasty of the breast for the period when the woman will finish breastfeeding the baby. Mammoplasty after pregnancy and lactation can be more effective also because after breastfeeding in many women, the breast, due to the stretching of the tissues, loses its original shape, decreases or hangs, so the operation for breast augmentation can be combined with surgery for its tightening.
