In the period 2006-2008, the diocese was called the Magnitogorsk vicar. The independent Magnitogorsk and Verkhneuralsk eparchy appeared on July 26, 2012. It was separated from the diocese of Chelyabinsk, and then was given to the beginning of the newly formed metropolitan Chelyabinsk.

At present, it unites the parishes of the Magnitogorsk and Locomotive City Districts, Nagaybak, Kizil, Kartalinsky, Verkhneuralsky, Bredinsky and Agapov districts of the Chelyabinsk region.
