Let's talk about stabilizer bushings

The car should be comfortable and safe. Must move evenly. Be firm against tipping and in turns. To achieve such indicators, there are many ways. Now we are talking about the stabilizer of lateral stability and its elements in the suspension system of the car.

Surely, every driver has repeatedly noticed that the car rolls to the side when turning. Another car, on the contrary, as if grabbing tires in the roadway, is a turn without unnecessary swings.

Of course, very much depends on the type and design of the suspension. And, by the way, from series to series it undergoes significant changes. It should be noted that for a comfortable ride the suspension should be soft. But there are many disadvantages in softness. One of them is the rocking of the body. To prevent this phenomenon, designers can go to various tricks. About this further.

Installation of the stabilizer allows the suspension to be a little stiff, to keep the car from excessive swinging while maintaining comfortable driving characteristics. The stabilizer bushings in it actively help.

Stabilizer is made in the form of a metal rod and has spring properties. The bushings of the front stabilizer are installed approximately in the middle (depending on the construction) and are made of rubber.

The middle part of the stabilizer is attached to the body or beam. Has an Π-shape. The ends, by means of hinged racks (in the people they are called bones), are attached to the suspension elements, more often to levers.

Now consider what a bushing is. The bush, in the context of the stabilizer, is the mating part. That is, she puts her inner hole on the part (an example is the hand grip), on the outside it is fastened and screwed to the rigid element (in our case, the car body or the suspension beam). The result: the stabilizer is fixed rigidly, but thanks to the bushings it is possible to "swim", performing its working functions.

The bushings of the stabilizer may become annoying when it wears out. How can this be avoided?

The transverse stability of the car is extremely important, especially when cornering. If, for example, do not take into account the speed of entering the turn, the car can easily turn over. Of course, if at the wheel of "daredevil", cars can not save even the most new-fangled traffic stability systems. When the trajectory changes , the machine tilts to the side opposite to the turn. There is a risk of overturning. Thus one wheel is more loaded, than another. It follows that a heavier wheel needs to be "supported". This function is assigned to the stabilizer. The stabilizer bushings, in turn, provide it with a "floating rotation" to prevent the metal breaking from overloading.

Stabilizer - a very reliable element in the suspension of the machine. Because it perceives the load variables, the parts associated with it wear out. It is advisable to replace the defective parts with new ones during the next maintenance, without waiting for their complete destruction. The bushings of the stabilizer, provided they are of proper quality, serve long enough, about 10,000 km of run. But they can remind themselves of a characteristic screech and knock earlier. It's not necessary to be frightened! But to delay with the solution of the issue is also not worth it. Replacement of the bushings of the stabilizer can be done by yourself. High qualification and rich metalwork experience does not require this. But be sure to read the manual on car repair. It is equally important to find and purchase high quality bushings, thereby eliminating the possibility of premature wear.
