Introduction to the thesis: rewrite at least five times

The average length of the thesis is more than 50 pages. And this, as a rule, pages of information and terminologically rich text. Therefore, the commission, often far from your specific topic and specialization, will not delve deeply. Usually only look at the introduction, conclusion and table of contents. The introduction to the thesis work is evident first. Therefore, these first few minutes of the commission's attention play a key role in your future evaluation - this is the very first impression.

My attempt number 5

So, you have not yet prepared the introduction of a thesis, how to write it and when? In general, normal practice is to redo your introduction at least five times. And for the first time it is written not at all after writing the whole work, as some believe. It is best to write an introduction at the very beginning when you are trying to focus on goals and plans. This will not "sculpt from what was", but consciously write the work itself.

Do not start with plagiarism

An example of the introduction of the thesis work on the web is not worth looking for. Firstly, the same wording in all "scientific works" has already filled everyone's nostrils, and your epigonism will be noticed. And secondly, in each institution there are lists of "favorite and unloved" words and phrases that should or should not contain an introduction to the thesis work.

For example, in one university it is normal to write a "study of something" as a goal, and in another for such a formulation can hack the entire diploma. So do not look for general formulations, go to your pulpit and torment your own supervisor.

Required components

In some frameworks, creative work is appropriate, even when you are an introduction to the thesis work. But there are norms. In your work consistently should be described the relevance of the topic, the traditional object and the subject of research. It is necessary for your university to formulate the goal, certainly with tasks (these are subgoals, often successive or parallel stages of work), hypotheses put forward, applied scientific methods.

Advantages of writing an introduction before working on the main part

Pay special attention to the elements of scientific novelty in the work, the novelty of considering precisely your problem and practical value. A qualitative introduction to the thesis also describes the structure of your entire "work".

It is clear that you can not write about everything before starting work. But reflections on the relevance and novelty are very appropriate at a stage when the topic is formulated approximately and has not yet been approved. By the way, if you are considering it yourself, discuss the wording in advance, at each department there is a certain limited time for its approval. After that, it's hard and difficult to change it. And there are dangers - for example, take a too broad or too narrow topic. Take a broad - "drown", narrow - the material is not enough. Therefore, it is so useful to write an approximate introduction much earlier than the main part.

If you are planning a career in science or just want to learn how to clearly express your thoughts, consider writing a thesis as a useful exercise. Self-created scientific work provides an invaluable experience that will be useful for the future writing of reports at work, the formulation of job descriptions, the creation of a resume. Work hard and get results!
