Information about the computer. How to get the most comprehensive?

Even a novice user should know where the information about the computer is located. The need to view it may appear when the system has a problem when an attempt is made to update the driver or in the case of system upgrades. Among other things, to get a qualified, complete and professional response from any service provider, you may also need to quickly find out which version of Windows is installed on the computer, how often the CPU is operating, what the hard disk capacity is, or the capacity of RAM.

Several ways

System information about the computer can be obtained at boot time. After power on, you need to press the Break / Pause key. All basic information will be displayed here. If necessary, you can simply write them on a sheet of paper. Downloading the PC will continue after pressing Esc or Enter.

In the summary table, which is built on the monitor screen during BIOS boot, the following information can be obtained:

  • The processor clock speed , the amount of its cache, ID and type.
  • Generation and amount of RAM. Information about which slots it is installed in.
  • Type and code name of the video adapter.
  • Volume and model of hard drive, DVD-drive and other drives.

Computer information provided by the operating system

Open the main menu and right-click on the "My Computer" icon. In the menu that opens, select Properties. A window with several tabs will be displayed. The "General" tab will show: the version of Windows, the name of the processor, the frequency on which it is running, the total amount of installed RAM.

You can get to this window through the control panel. Open the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel" in it. In its list, click on the label "Performance and Maintenance".

Information about the computer, shown on the screen with this method, does not make it possible to write it to an external file. You can use an undocumented way to save this data (like a picture). First press the Print Screen / Sys Rq button to record the screen image to the clipboard. Then open any graphics editor, for example, Paint, and press Shift + Insert on the keyboard. After that, open the "File" menu and select "Save".

Installed devices

Sometimes information about the computer is needed along with a listing of installed devices to understand what functions correctly and which operating system does not see at all. In this case, it makes sense to pay attention to the inscription "Device Manager" in the computer properties window.

Clicking on this link, you can get full information about the "iron" components of the PC. This is a very useful tool that allows you to diagnose faults or just see if all the necessary drivers are installed. The devices in the dispatcher are sorted into groups. For example, the video card will be in the "Video adapters" group, and the hard disk in the "Disk devices" group.

Having opened the properties of any component, you can get exhaustive information about it, update the driver or completely remove it from the system, so that the OS believes that it is not connected.

Msinfo32.exe

Viewing information about the computer can be performed using the utility Msinfo32.exe, which is present in the distribution of Windows. Go to the "Start" - "Run", type Msinfo32 and click on OK.

Msinfo32 describes the hardware and software settings in the most detailed way. It allows not only to view comprehensive information, but also to identify equipment conflicts, generate a report on software incompatibility and errors that occurred during the work process.

AIDA64

Information about the computer can be obtained with the help of special programs that are not included in the Windows package. On the Internet, they are not lacking, but the most popular such application is AIDA64. It displays the most detailed information about the hardware, programs, OS and plug-ins.

Monitoring

It happens that you need dynamically changing information about the computer. Windows 7 can only display the data that drivers and BIOS provide. If you want to see the voltage values, the temperatures of the various devices, the speed at which the fans rotate, you can also use AIDA64.

In addition to viewing graphs and values, the program allows you to write data to a log or export to another application, which makes it possible to view research results in time. Also, if some values exceed the allowable values, the program will automatically give a signal to the sound device and write about it on the monitor screen.

CPU-Z

CPU-Z is an application that is considered one of the most needed for a system administrator. It can display all the basic information about the computer. Windows 7, 8, XP, Vista - no matter what version you have installed, the program is suitable for anyone.

The CPU-Z interface consists of six tabs:

  • Processor.
  • Cache.
  • Mainboard.
  • Memory.
  • SPD.
  • Graphics.

In the "Processor" tab, as it is easy to guess, information about the CPU is displayed. Here are displayed: model, code name, technological process (in nanometers), voltage applied to the device. The "Cache" tab continues the information about the processor, here the data about the cache memory of the CPU of all levels is displayed.

The data tab on the motherboard shows the following characteristics: the device model and the chipset model, the manufacturer and the BIOS version, detailed information on the north and south bridges.

The Memory and SPD tabs will tell you about RAM. They will tell you such criteria as: its volume, the number of free and occupied slots, timings, frequency, generation, whether dual-channel mode is enabled.

Graphics will show all data about the video card. In addition to the standard amount of video memory, the processor frequency, memory frequency, memory bus bandwidth, number of cores will be indicated.
