How to properly connect the siphon to the sewer

Sewage system in apartments and private houses is characterized by a rather complicated layout. Even small elements can play an important role in the functionality of the system. A special place in the piping is given to the sewer siphon (hydraulic seal) - a special bent pipe or a whole pipe construction, thanks to which the sink or bath is connected to the sewage system.

Such a bizarre form of this device was chosen not by chance, because, thanks to the bend in the siphon, a water plug is formed, which does not allow smells from the sewer to penetrate the room.

An overview of the main ways to connect the siphon to the sewer is presented in our article.

Types and selection of the right product

Proper layout of the space under the sink or bathroom should take into account the location of the sewage siphon. To select the optimal design, you must use the classification of the main types of this device.

Structurally, you can distinguish three varieties:

  • Bottle hydroseal with immersed tube. Outwardly, it can be of various configurations, the main thing is a side outlet for sewage and an elongated lower part, in which water accumulates. Inside there is a tube from the drain of the sink (bathtub), through which the water enters. Due to the water level difference in the "bottle", foreign smells do not penetrate from the side branch.
  • Bottle water seal with two partitions. It differs from the first type by the presence of a drainage bend at the bottom of the structure. Inside the system also provides a water stopper with two partitions.
  • The sewage siphon is a serially connected pipe system. Usually, at least one of them has a curved shape, in which water is retained.

It is always difficult to choose from the offered assortment of goods, but if quality is considered the priority, sml siphons are considered a guarantee of durability. A wide range of strong cast iron, international certification, standard sizes and ease of installation - these are the main trump cards of this company.

How to connect the siphon to the sewer

Performing plumbing work with their own hands, with the design of the siphon, most of the owners are familiar firsthand. Modern products are also necessarily equipped with detailed instructions and all necessary connecting details. You can assemble the node according to the attached scheme, sealing the joints. To purchase was successful, be sure to measure the free space under the sink or bathroom.

Connecting the kitchen sink or washbasin:

  • Combine the top opening of the siphon with the sink drain.
  • Insert the gaskets.
  • Lock the joints.
  • Insert the second end of the siphon into the drain and clamp it with a coupling.
  • Check connections for leaks by turning on water. If necessary, renew the seal.

Correctly to connect a siphon of a bath with the water drain will be little bit more difficult, basically because of inaccessibility of a drain branch pipe. After the drain hole is combined with the water seal entry, a corrugated pipe for the second tap can be used. For the convenience of mounting and connecting pipes of different diameters, it is envisaged to use adapters of appropriate dimensions.

Self-made

The real owner and this work is quite possible. To make the simplest siphon for the canalization by your own hands, you can literally from improvised means. The best way to do this is a corrugated plastic pipe, which is also often used in the distribution of sewer pipes. For this, it is necessary to give it a curved configuration and securely fix the bend. During operation, it should be remembered that a negative feature of such pipes is a fast clogging, therefore regular maintenance is necessary.

It is not difficult even for a newcomer to install a siphon to the sewer system in plumbing, so you can save a lot on the call of the master. Using a simple instruction, you can easily do this work yourself.
