How to install ceilings from plastic panels correctly?

Ceilings of plastic panels every year are becoming increasingly popular. They have become an integral part of the concept of modern and stylish interiors of both residential and office space.

Ceilings from plastic panels have several important advantages:

  • Excellent aesthetic qualities;
  • Adequate cost of materials;
  • Simplicity of installation and subsequent maintenance of ceilings;
  • No need for periodic maintenance or tinting;
  • The possibility of implementing point lighting and installation of various engineering utilities under them;
  • Compatibility with heat and noise insulation materials;
  • Moisture resistance.

But, as is known, even the best material has its drawbacks. And the ceilings made of plastic panels are no exception. For example, their mechanical strength leaves much to be desired - cracks and scratches can appear even as a result of minor impact. In addition, the plastic reacts negatively to direct UV radiation.

Installation of ceilings from plastic panels

1. Frame construction

Without it, ceilings made of plastic panels can not exist. The quality of the frame depends on their durability and beauty. Therefore, this stage should be given maximum attention. The frame can be made of metal profiles or wooden bars.

Wooden bars
Metallic profile

Positioning should be perpendicular to the direction of laying the panels.

Plastic ceiling is located at a distance of 10-15 cm from the base.

Depending on the presence of heaters, lighting systems, etc., the pitch should be between 40 and 60 cm.

First of all, you need to fix the profile rails with holes drilled every 40 cm (diameter - 6 mm). The profile is applied to the wall so that you can also drill the necessary holes in it.

The bars should be located in the same plane (so the base - the ceiling - should be perfectly flat).

On the lines of the intended installation of the rack profiles, lines on the ceiling are beaten.

The fixation of the bars takes place with the help of reliable fasteners (anchor bolts, dowels, etc.) and a perforator.

According to the made marks, suspensions are installed (step - 0,6-0,8 m). The distance between adjacent load-bearing profiles is about 0.4-0.6 m.

Rack profiles are set in the guides, and then attached to the suspension by means of self-tapping screws for metal.

To ensure that the structure is flat, pull the padding cord between the end points of the guide structures.

To improve noise insulation in places where the profile touches the wall, use a foam or foam pad.

2. Sheathing

Installation of the ceiling of plastic panels consists of two stages. The first is the installation of the frame. And the second one is the sheathing of the frame itself with plastic panels. The first panel should be directed by the crest towards the wall. Next, the edge of each panel is set in the groove of the previous one. To the frame they are attached using self-tapping screws. It is important to place the fastening elements exclusively in the mounting strips of the panels. After the main works are finished, it remains only to install a decorative frieze with glue in the places where the panels are adjacent to the walls.

Done! I hope this article will be useful for you if you want to make a ceiling in the kitchen from plastic panels or in any other room!
