How good is an English Shepherd?

One of the best guard dogs in the world is now the English Shepherd. Looking at such a four-legged friend, first of all each of us can see incredible similarities with the collie. In fact, the dogs of these two breeds really are related and, moreover, have a very unusual and very old history. Well, let's consider it in more detail.

A small prehistory

According to the official version, the English Shepherd was brought to the British Isles back in ancient times. Then these territories were occupied by the Romans, and it was with the dogs of this breed that they settled here. Animals were considered excellent watchmen and most often guarded grazing sheep, and also belonged to the property of many well-to-do soldiers and peasants. Gradually, the cattle on the fields of the UK became less and less, because all animals brought from the Roman Empire, they began to live simply with people. Centuries passed, and during the development of American lands a large number of dogs of the English Shepherd breed migrated to the New Earth. There, these four-legged migrants crossed with collies and other shepherd dogs, resulting in the birth of a new sheepdog, which has not changed its appearance for more than five hundred years.

Character and features

Next, we will consider what behavior, and also what skills the English shepherd boasts. Characteristics of the dog immediately reveals to us the fact that it is universal. In addition to the fact that the breed was bred specifically for protection purposes, it can also be noted that these are also very intelligent animals. They take part in various competitions in frisbee, flyboll and agility. Also, all the representatives of the genus English shepherds perfectly climb trees and can get anything from any height. The character can be described in a few words, and everything will immediately become clear. The dog is quick, reacts quickly to any team, and at the same time remains kind and accommodating. We should also note that quite often representatives of this breed are left as nannies with children.

External data of the animal

Medium size, dense muscular physique, small but not too small head and fluffy tail - this is such a brief description of the breed English Shepherd. Photo provides an opportunity to visually see and remember all the features of dogs. Growth at the withers, as a rule, varies within 45-55 centimeters. The weight category begins with a mark of 18 kilograms and ends at 30. Color is of three types: either a combination of white with black, or red with white, or it is a combination of just these three colors. Another characteristic feature of the breed is a black or red mask over the eyes, although this factor is not at all mandatory. The length of the coat is average for the Englishwoman, near the ears and on the front of the legs is shorter and softer, and on the stomach is the most rigid.

Care of the breed

In appearance, the dog does not look particularly special, exotic, because many think that it does not require special care. In fact, the "Achilles heel" in this case is wool. The English Shepherd is considered the owner of a long wool cover, therefore it is necessary to look after it carefully and regularly. Buy preferably two brushes - with long teeth and short. The first one should be used once a week, so to speak, for global cleansing. The second can be combed out the dog every other day. The second rule - to apply shampoo too often does not cost, otherwise the pet will strongly shed. But on hot days simple bathing will benefit. And one more thing - it is advisable not to cut an Englishwoman's claws, as representatives of this breed are extremely nervous about this procedure.

Some moments of training

Just note that obedience in this breed of dogs, you can say, in the blood. But this does not mean that you do not have to engage in upbringing. First, determine one place for the dog in the house where she will sleep, where all her toys will be folded. Also keep the bowls clean and tidy - this will positively influence the discipline. In the first six months of life, English sheep-dogs are advised to buy as many toys as possible. Also, they should be introduced to other puppies, and taught to communicate with children. After 6 months, start training, training teams and physical activities. An adult Englishwoman should run a lot to maintain her muscles in tonus. And keep in mind that education should be strict, but not rigid. To beat an English sheepdog in no event is not worth it, since treat with respect for the person who raised her hand, it will never be.

Buy a puppy

Zooms, markets, shops, and even nurseries - these are the places where an English shepherd is sold. The price for puppies or for adults depends on where you buy the animal. In some nurseries, English women are given free of charge, in other dogs they are sold at a conditional price. If you take a puppy with a pedigree, the price will fluctuate within 25-30 thousand rubles.
