Home Decoration - palm date

Palm date in natural conditions grows in the tropics, namely in Asia and North Africa. At home they grow huge, and their leaves sometimes reach 15 m in length. In our climatic conditions this plant, of course, never grows outdoors, but at home it has been successfully grown for many decades.

Nowadays it is easy to find an adult size palm tree in specialized stores, but its cost will be very high. If you do not have enough money, you can grow this plant yourself for several years, using for this purpose a bone of a regular date, which we sell everywhere. Best of all, the bones extracted from fresh fruits grow, but since we do not practically sell them, use the bone of the dried dates. A few days before landing in the soil, soak a stone in the water. Water needs to be changed daily, and a growth stimulant can be used for rapid germination. The palm of the date will sprout more quickly if you gently inscribe the tip of the stone. The stone must be planted vertically, with the side facing upwards. It is sprinkled with a layer of soil 2-2.5 cm. At an air temperature of 25 ° C and sufficient humidity, a bone from a fresh date usually sprouts in 1.5 months. Bones from the dried fruit can germinate until 6-7 months.

In any case, whether you have a large plant or just beginning your development, you need to know how to properly care for a palm tree. This plant can grow in ordinary soil, intended for growing indoor plants. It is best to mix it with river sand. A prerequisite for the successful development of the plant is the presence in the pot of drainage, for which claydite is most often used. As a drain, you can use small pebbles or broken clay pottery. Since the date palm is a fairly large plant, the pot for adult specimens should be large and deep.

A young palm tree is in need of annual transplantation. At the same time, every year you should gradually increase the volume of the pot. Adult specimens should be transplanted once every 5 years. Abundant, but not too frequent watering is necessary for the palm tree in spring and summer. The earth in the pot must always be moist. In the cold season, the plant needs moderate watering. Spraying of leaves in summer heat and in winter is a necessary procedure, ensuring the normal state of this plant. Leaves are sprayed on both sides. Palmar disease can occur when watering with hard water, so it should be watered only with standing water.

When asked how to look after a palm tree so that its leaves do not turn yellow, there is one answer - to provide sufficient moisture. Lack of moisture leads to yellowing of the leaves and their lowering. If the edges of your palm leaves have turned yellow, they can be cut off, leaving a thin yellow strip on the edge of the leaf.

Flowers on these palms in the home are rare. They are small and almost do not smell. To stimulate flowering, natural honey is often used. In this case, 1 t of water is usually added to 1 l of standing water. Spoon of honey. With regular feeding, the chances of seeing a blooming palm grow significantly. If such plants are grown in the winter garden, then even the fruiting of date palms is possible.

The date palm grows well only under the condition of sufficient sunlight, and in winter it will require additional artificial lighting. Since these plants are quite large even in room conditions, they require a large space, since nothing should limit their growth.
