In the Middle Ages, the official status and administrative subordination of these lands changed several times. And only at the very end of the eighteenth century Ryazan province was again formed. But later the city and its surroundings once again turned out to be part of the Moscow region. And only after the exit from it Ryazan once again became an administrative center.

Most of the region's territories are located in the forest-steppe zone. The Ryazan region is characterized by alternating elevations and lowlands. Due to this variety of relief, there is a rich world of wildlife here. There are no problems with water resources: there are a lot of rivers and lakes in the vicinity of Ryazan. The industry is quite developed in the region, but there are no serious problems with ecology. Specialists are more worried about peat and forest fires, which are consistently repetitive in hot-dry periods.

On the territory of the region there are protected areas and state reserves. The nature of the Ryazan Region in its natural form is preserved in the Oksky Reserve and the Meshchersky National Park. One third of the entire territory of the region is occupied by forests, along the banks of rivers there are many oak forests, and coniferous and mixed are also found. Quite a lot in the vicinity of Ryazan natural monuments, today there are 57 of them.

One of the most famous places in the city of Ryazan is the Kremlin, on its territory is the Ryazan Museum-Reserve, which is under protection. The St. John the Theological Monastery, located in the village of Poshchupovo, is of great historical and cultural significance. The date of its founding was recognized in the 13th century. The history and culture of the Ryazan region greatly influenced the worldview and work of the world-famous Russian poet Sergei Esenin, because it was in these parts that he was born. Today in the village of Konstantinovo there is a museum-reserve named after the great writer. Here you can see the patrimonial estate of the poet's parents, the school, the church and some other interesting objects. The real pride of the Ryazan region is the Von Derviz estate, the palace was erected under the guidance of the architect Fyodor Shekhtel. Its facade is well preserved and is accessible for inspection, inside today there is a medical and preventive institution for children. There are legends about the incredibly rich decoration of the entire territory adjacent to the main house, but today judging of their truthfulness remains only on the ruins of fountains and park steps.
