HEPA filter for perfect cleanliness
The modern models of vacuum cleaners produced in recent years are increasingly equipped with HEPA filters. Such devices deal with particles, which can only be seen with the help of a microscope.
History of creation
Highly effective particle retention - that's how the HERA abbreviation is translated from English. The device and material of these filters allow them to be attributed to the devices of fine cleaning.
They were developed in the last century, in the forties, when creating an atomic bomb project. The purpose of these filters was the removal of radioactive impurities. After some time, the field of application of cleaning devices has significantly expanded. They were used in engineering and medical institutions, in the pharmaceutical and food industries, as well as in household appliances.
What is a HEPA filter? This device for high-effective particle retention is produced from fine cellulose fiber. When the vacuum cleaner is working, the dust settles on a network formed from the smallest pores. In this case, even the smallest particles with a size of 0.3 μm are retained.
The HEPA filter is manufactured using a special technology. Its main principle is the pressing of layers of cellulose and their compilation in the form of an accordion. This allows to significantly increase the area of the filter surface. The cellulose garnish is fixed by means of a reinforcing grid.
HEPA-filter can be disposable. In this case, fiberglass is added to the cellulose when it is made. A reusable HEPA filter is made from fluoroplastic fibers.
Purpose
Filters for very fine cleaning are used when cleaning the room with a vacuum cleaner. They can eliminate microorganisms and allergens. Particles are also very efficiently captured. This process is possible with the following HEPA filter mechanisms:
- the effect of meshing particles for microfiber;
- the effect of inertia, which is expressed for large particles;
- the diffusion effect, which is most pronounced at low airflow rates.
Is it possible to wash the HEPA filter?
There are cases when when cleaning with a vacuum cleaner there is a rather unpleasant smell of dust. This may mean that the filter has worked its life and stopped detaining the particles that it was designed for. In order to remedy the situation, it is necessary to replace the cellulose accordion with a new one. You can just wash it. However, this procedure is only possible if the filter is water resistant. The replacement times and cleaning conditions are specified in the instructions for the vacuum cleaner.
