"Glory" (clock, USSR): description, characteristics, history. Men's mechanical watches

The watches of Soviet brands were in great demand not only on the territory of our country, but also in Europe. And this is not surprising, because of the accuracy of the course and design, they were not inferior to the recognized Swiss brands. And by some characteristics even surpassed them. The dream of many Soviet citizens was the wristwatch "Glory", they will be discussed in this article.

The Second Moscow Watch Factory: the History of the Establishment of the Famous Enterprise

In Soviet Russia watch factories were not, it significantly spoiled the image of the young state, which with all its might tried to become the first in all areas of the economy and production of goods for the population. Experience was acquired from foreign colleagues, and the first equipment was bought not of the best quality. But it was precisely this that became the basis for the opening of watch factories in the Soviet Union.

In the twenties of the 20th century, the Second Moscow Watch Factory was opened in the capital, which was formed as a result of the merger of numerous workshops and a radio telegraph plant. At that time only the best watchmakers of the former empire worked at the opened enterprise. They actively cooperated with the Soviet authorities and were glad to receive the opportunity to do what they liked. These same people independently taught the newcomers, who later became those who created the brand "Glory." The USSR watches always received rather sonorous names that characterized the spirit of the young state. In addition, they were of high quality and were therefore carefully designed. The debut product of the Second Moscow watch factory came out only six years after its formation. And these were not wristwatches, but street ones. For more than twenty years the plant was separated from the creation of the brand "Glory" (clock, USSR), which will become the pride of the enterprise.

After the first street hours, Muscovites had alarm clocks. They were not accessible to every resident of the capital, but they were in great demand and were a symbol of success.

Brand "Glory"

The USSR clock began to be produced massively around the eve of the Second World War. The watch factory did not lag behind the general trend. In production, various brands of wrist watches were produced - "Era", "Victory". Actively sold out pocket models called "Salute". The fashion included desktop mechanisms and the alarms already mentioned earlier.

Soviet people sought to acquire goods produced by the industry of our country, which were of high quality. This aspect was given special significance, because the citizens of the USSR were supposed to own only the best goods. Such was the policy of the state.

With the outbreak of World War II, the production of watches was suspended, and the plant itself was evacuated to Chistopol. In the future, in this city was established its own enterprise, which is a subsidiary of the Second Moscow Watch Factory.

A few years after the significant victory in the sale were released the first watch men's mechanical stamps "Glory." A few years later, under the same name came a female model.

Short description of the watch "Glory"

The model "Glory" appeared only after the plant's masters managed to master the production of small-sized alarms. In addition, the creation of a new brand took many years spent on the development of stopwatches and various watch movements. Literally from the moment of its first appearance on the shelves of shops, Soviet citizens loved the brand "Glory." The Soviet clock in the second half of the twentieth century was more of a luxury than a daily routine. Therefore, the people of our huge country with pleasure took the appearance of models that were designed for the capabilities and needs of the average person. This alone has provided great watchfulness to these watch movements.

Over time, under this brand began to produce a fairly wide range of products of the plant:

  • Wrist watches for men and women;
  • Alarm clocks;
  • Wall mechanisms;
  • a table clock.

Most of the models were mechanical, but the first quartz watches in the country were produced under the so-beloved Soviet citizens brand "Glory."

Characteristics of the famous watch

The design of the clockwork was given great attention. Almost all models used a shockproof case, a stopwatch and a double calendar. For the middle of the last century, such a filling was truly revolutionary.

From the mid-sixties of the twentieth century, watchmakers began to exhibit models under the "Glory" brand for international exhibitions. And, which is quite expected, they received high praise from foreign experts. Not once the products of the Second Moscow Watch Factory were awarded gold medals. It is this fact that played its role in the fact that the products of the brand "Glory" (watches, the USSR) were produced for export. They were delivered to different countries of the world, at times more than half of all products were exported. This was the impetus for modifications of mechanisms, watchmakers were actively working to ensure that their brand in terms of technological characteristics was not inferior to Western novelties. One of the characteristic features of all models without exception was a double winding drum. Over time, it became the symbol of the clock "Glory."

Modification of the mechanisms used in watches

The men's mechanical watches "Slava" were subjected to great changes and modifications. For all time of existence of a brand several mechanisms have been developed:

  • 2409;
  • 2414;
  • 2416;
  • 2427;
  • 2428.

In the eighties of the last century, the last modification of the watch movement was put into production, and from that time the plant did not make any new developments.

In the clock "Glory" was a different number of stones. There were mechanisms with twenty-one and twenty-five stones. Many models had a winding, and some even showed the days of the week.

The case of most watches was made of brass, it was covered with chrome or gilding. Quartz models "Glory" are not too fond of the consumer. They were produced in a limited series in the nineties of the last century.

Watch "Glory" in our days

The history of the watch "Glory" in the 21st century is not as rosy as many watchmakers would like. With the collapse of the USSR the sunset of the plant began, the products could no longer compete with foreign models. The consumer preferred collections with an intricate design, and the Second Moscow Watch Factory did not keep pace with current trends. Naturally, this affected the number of sales. The enterprise was slowly approaching bankruptcy.

In 2005, the trademark "Glory" together with the plant building and the remaining equipment was purchased by a private bank. A year later the Trading House "Slava" was established, carrying out the task of reviving the watchmaking in the country.

Today, the products under the brand name "Slava" work on Japanese and domestic machinery. Some models use original details of the Second Moscow watch factory, in others the mechanisms of the Vostok enterprise.

In recent years, the Trading House "Slava" has united several brands under its brand and actively develops them. The clock regularly goes to international exhibitions and gradually regains its former popularity. The last three years have significantly affected the sales of watches of this brand. They began to buy up as a souvenir by foreigners visiting our country as part of tourist trips. Particularly popular products of the brand "Glory" among the inhabitants of the Middle Kingdom.
