Gennady Yanayev is a bold fighter for the USSR
This man will forever enter the domestic history, since it was he who was not only an eyewitness to the events that led to the disintegration of the great Country of Soviets, but also a participant in the political structure that attempted to prevent the destruction of the USSR. Of course, we are talking about the Emergency Committee (State Emergency Committee), in which Gennady Yanayev played one of the key roles. He positioned himself as a patriot of the country, and the ideals of communism were perceived by him as something unshakable and sacred. Yes, in August 1991, Gennady Yanayev became a participant in the coup d'état, and for him he became almost the only chance to preserve a "socialist" empire occupying 1/6 of the land. But this attempt was a failure, and the party functionary found himself in disgrace, catering to places not so remote. However, soon he was released and began to live the ordinary life of the average Russian.
Biographical information
Gennady Ivanovich Yanayev - a native of a small settlement Perevoz, located in the Nizhny Novgorod region. He was born on August 26, 1937. After school, the young man decided to enter Gorky Agricultural Institute, having chosen the specialty "mechanical engineer". Successfully passing exams, he becomes a student of this institution. Becoming a graduate, Gennady Yanayev wants to get a second higher education and goes to the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Law. He began his working career as an engineer.
Komsomol and party
In the first half of the 60's. Gennady Yanayev takes the most active part in the affairs of the Komsomol. A few years later he will be appointed first secretary of the regional committee of the Komsomol. Then he will take another responsible and high position - the head of the Committee of Youth Organizations.
In the early 80's. The party activist focuses on "diplomatic work", he establishes international contacts with foreign states, being in the structure of the Union of Soviet Societies of Friendship and Cultural Communication. In parallel, Gennady Yanayev, whose biography is similar to the biographies of many CPSU functionaries, works in the editorial board of the popular printed edition "Around the World". Beginning in the second half of the 80's and up to 1990, a graduate of the Gorky Agricultural Institute is fond of working in trade union organizations, eventually taking up the post of head of the structure with a well-known abbreviation - the AUCCTU.
The highest echelons of power
Career Yanaev could envy every party functionary. In the summer of 1990, at the next congress of the party, he not only received membership in the CPSU Central Committee, but also joined the Politburo. At the same time, colleagues in the party elected Gennady Ivanovich a secretary of the Central Committee, who was obliged to oversee international issues. But high appointments did not stop there. At the end of 1990, Yanayev received the post of vice president of the country. In this capacity, he will stay until September 1991.
The threat of the collapse of the Soviet Union
Soon the country started processes that could lead to the collapse of the USSR. Regions on the outskirts of the country began to declare independence. The republican Communist Parties less and less obeyed the instructions of the CPSU. The allied political nomenklatura began to split up, and representatives of regional political elites wanted separatism. The situation in the country was seriously destabilized: incumbent President Mikhail Gorbachev ultimately succumbed to the pressure of those who wanted autonomy and was ready to sign a treaty on the CIS. But the Politburo of the CPSU did not like this development of events, it creates a state emergency committee by the Goskom.
GKCHP
This structure was supposed to prevent the collapse of the country. In its composition was and Gennady Yanayev. First, the committee attempted to persuade the country's head Mikhail Gorbachev to enter the entire territory of the state of emergency. Then the members of the State Emergency Committee switched to fighting the RSFSR Supreme Court and Boris Yeltsin, supported by supporters of the "renewed" state. But the power struggle was lost, and then the committee took a radical measure - they removed Gorbachev from the management of state affairs and forcibly kept it at the dacha in Foros. Such actions of the State Emergency Committee were later qualified as a coup d'état.
Arrest
The force could not hold the old regime to the putschists, and all of them were arrested. This fate did not pass Gennady Yanayev. In August 1991, he was charged with high treason. He is sent to Matrosskaya Tishina, where he is serving his sentence. In 1993, deputies of the lower house of the Russian parliament amnestied those who were involved in the coup. Yanayev was released.
last years of life
At the final part of his life Gennady Ivanovich focused on scientific work and social activities. In particular, he was on the veterans' committee, he dealt with the problems of people with disabilities. In the Russian International Academy of Tourism, the ex-official was in charge of the Department of History and International Relations.
Over the years he has been awarded two Orders of the Badge of Honor and two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor. The former member of the State Emergency Committee was repeatedly asked to describe the events of the collapse of a great country on paper. At first he refused, because he never noticed any writer's talent for himself. But after a while he agreed. Still took up the pen Yanaev Gennady Ivanovich. "The last battle for the USSR" - the so-called book, which describes in detail the events of the early 90's. A copy of it will reach the author when he is already in the hospital.
Family status
Yanayev was married twice. The first wife (Roza Alekseevna) worked as an agrochemical engineer. She gave birth to the wife of two daughters. Svetlana Yanaeva (daughter of Gennady Yanayev) chose the profession of psychologist, and Maria became a lawyer. The second time the politician married a history teacher.
In the last years of his life, Yanayev had serious health problems (lung disease). In the fall of 2010 he was hospitalized. Doctors up to the last fought for the life of Gennady Ivanovich, but alas. He died on September 24, 2010. Yanaev Gennady Ivanovich, whose funeral was held with the participation of his associates and close friends, was buried at the Troyekurovsky cemetery of the capital.
